Shopping On The Weekend

Went to Costco yesterday against my husband's warnings, I needed to buy some food stuff and didn't want to waste my weekdays on food shopping. I like the weekdays much more than the weekends now that I'm retired, lol.

Anyway, the parking lot was packed, and it's a huge lot. I still had a positive attitude, thinking maybe it wouldn't be so bad in the store. Got inside, and it seemed like it was a real family affair for the shoppers. Each person pushing a cart was surrounded by family members and excitable kids. Of course they clustered around the free sample stands, making it impossible to even get through.

Lots of people were in another world, blocking the entire aisle in a daze, not aware of anyone around them who might need to see what's on the shelf or get by with their carts. Of course there were the cellphone users, who were somewhere else completely, and disregarded the world.

I was hoping that when I got to the check outs that the lines wouldn't be bad and there would be a good amount of cashiers. Well, there were a lot of cashiers, but the lines were long enough to reach into the aisles on every one. When I got back out to my car, there were people double parked, anxiously awaiting for shoppers to load their groceries and pull out of their spots, so they could use them.

When I came home rolling my eyes, hubby said 'I told you so', and I had to agree, he was right. Won't be doing that again in the near future, that's for sure! :p I don't like shopping to begin with! :playful: Do you mind shopping on weekends when the traffic is heavy and the stores are packed?

I with you Sea. We don't go out on weekends period. People are crazy out there. I like to go early in the morning on a Wensday or Thursday. The employees are fresh, and much more willing to help, or answer questions.

OH i agree SB. I rarely go shopping on a Saturday and Sunday because everywhere all the supermarkets and all the retail parks are exactly as you describe. I work full time but on a rota so there is always a couple of days mid-week where I can choose to shop when it's much quieter. I especially like to go early afternoon, because most parents have got their shopping over and done with after dropping the kids off at school in the mornings, and the shops are so much busier up until 2pm..then there's a big lull between 2 and 4 on the roads and at the shopping malls after which it all starts again with all the parents who wish to shop after they've collected the kids from school and the roads are also becoming very busy with early evening rush hour traffic!

So my shopping slot particularly the grocery shopping is usually done between 2, and 4pm.

Any day before 10 am is good here but weekdays are better. We don't have crowds like you city folks have though. Our worst times are probably not as busy as your best times.

Back when I did real shopping I always liked to go at 10 or 11 at night. The crowds were gone by then but the stockers weren't blocking the aisles yet.

One of the nice things about living in a large urban area - there are 24-hour grocery stores.

One store here in PA I used to go at 6am on a Saturday, just to get the fresh bagels. Everyone else was sleeping then.

I do my weekly shopping when the supermarket opens at 9.30am on a Sunday morning. It is quiet at that time and I have filled my trolley by the time the checkouts open at 10am (Sunday trading laws!)

We also have 24 hour supermarkets here within 2 miles or a 5 minute drive.. but really it's a pain to shop then, you can't buy alcohol after 10pm or meds , there's no bread in the bakery and the grocery shelves are all empty until the night stackers get properly started, and and then by 11pm the aisles are completely blocked with the stackers and their cages, so it feels like a waste of time to go late at night unless I need something urgently..other than , meds, bread, alcohol...... yada yada LOL

I went to Walmart food store on Friday night, never do that again.
Those shopper are crazy, these are the one that work all work and dont want to spend their hard earned money on food.

"Shopping On The Weekend"
(apologies to Loverboy)

Everyone's watching as you roll through this zoo
Everyone's bumping into you, oh
Everyone's wondering will they make out all right
Everyone's trying to get in a fight, in a fight

Everybody's shopping on the weekend
Everybody does the Walmart Dance
Everybody's buying loads of Depends
Everybody needs some plastic pants, oh

You're bumpin' into my cart
You're really dressed like a tart
You wanna' get back in line?
C'mon, lady, don't whine!

Everyone's looking to see if it was you
That smuggled out a DVD or two
Everyone's hoping they'll save a little cash
Everyone's hiding their own little stash

Everybody's shopping on the weekend
Everybody does the Walmart Dance
Everybody's buying loads of Depends
Everybody needs some plastic pants, oh

You're bumpin' into my cart
You're really dressed like a tart
You wanna' get back in line?
C'mon, lady, don't whine!

I shop every Saturday morning. I wait until the door bell rings and there it is. It is even bought into the Kitchen for me.:D

This past weekend was 'tax free' weekend for back to school shopping in our area. So stores were packed more than usual.
Not my idea of a fun time!
I usually do any shopping middle of the week, early in the day.

Since wife still works a full-time job during the week, some of our shopping has to be done on weekends. We were in our local Mall on "tax-free" weekend and the amount of people didn't really bother us. I was joking with folks asking "where do I get the tickets for the Aerosmith concert playing here today?"

Our main grocery shopping day is Thursday, after wife gets home from work at 5:30PM. Oh boy, Wal Mart here we come!!

Mondays and Tuesdays are the best days for food shopping here, I only like shopping on the weekends just for relaxed shopping and looking around.

Agree, I'm working with a rotating schedule and I hate my weekends off. I worked 10 years, 12 hour shifts Fri-Sun. Loved having Mon-Thu off and rarely missed having a weekend off. I also avoid certain stores at the first of the month due to the crowds.
