Short naps ?

Maybe I'm just getting lazy in my old age but since retiring April 1st I've got to where about 85% of the time I take a short nap around 12:30 p.m. or so.......never more than 90 minutes and most of the time it's around 60 to 75 minutes.

Normally I go to bed around 8:00 p.m. and I'm up by around 3:30 a.m., which was my habit for many years while working and apparently my internal clock still feels like that suits me.

Anyone else like the occasional short nap during the day ?

Yes, I take regular naps from about 12:30 or 1PM..Mostly when the weather is bad or I am not working on any project or hobby.

The 1PM naps started after the noon newscast and the wife turned on the soaps!! I refused to get involved in them so I take the nap..

Invariably, if I sit and relax after lunch I'm off for at least an hour. whether I like it or not!

No problem if I'm actually driving but I once woke up in a supermarket car park with a stone cold cup of coffee!

No naps. Never got into the habit and even during retirement, I find that I have too much going on. Not that I couldn't take a snooze from time to time, but then I may not be able to doze at night.

Mine are usually in the 15-20 minute range and I don't have one every day. It's rare I ever have one in the hour range, maybe if I got a poor night of sleep the night before.

I remember my grandfather always had his afternoon nap. There was a couch off the dining room and for maybe an hour or so that was his time to sleep. It was understood I could amuse myself reading or watching TV. He lived to 96 so maybe he was on to something there.

I can remember a nice one liner in Blue Bloods when Tom Selleck said that a planned afternoon for his boys did not leave enough time for afternoon naps.

Grandfather said that the boys were too old for afternoon naps. Selleck replied,"I was thinking about us."!

Yes, occasionally I will take a nap after lunch, especially if I did not sleep well the night before.

This is something that I never did until around a year ago, old age changes us all, but it is so nice to be able to lie down and rest/read/sleep when you want to.

I often have a little catnap during the day, for a very very short time, sometimes only 20 minutes or so. It doesn't seem to interfere with my sleep at all. If I don't let myself nap when I need it, I conk out anyway sitting in an armchair.

Oh boy! Naps! You bet. I get up about 5:30. Eat breakfast. Nap 6:00 to 7:30. Have coffee. Nap 8:00 to 10:00. Apple pie, TV, PC, maybe food shop. Sometimes nap 12:30 to 2:00. TV, PC, house work. Dinner around 3:00. Computer game. Sometimes nap 5:00 to 6:00. TV, PC, Computer game. Grapefuit juice and Cheezits. Then starts a night long routine of 5 to 10 minute naps between trips to the toilet, TV, PC, computer game. I have probably two long stretches of sleep at night. The longest one is about 2;00 to 5:30. So, yeah, about four or five naps during the day, and maybe as many as five mini ones at night.

Yes I know you are supposed to get eight hours at a clip. Bear in mind, I am pushing 83. When I sleep, I am really out. I never seem to dream any more. The nights are long, but when I'm up, I'm feeling good. I keep the house up by myself. I guess they would say I have a sleep disorder, but its working for me. I certainly don't feel sleep deprived!

Well that's enough for now.A little TV and off to bed, :eek:fftobed:

I do take naps. I love naps! Even when I was working, if I could, I'd sneak home for a 30 minute nap at lunch. Actually, it helped my eyes a lot -- I did very close work on the computer all day and my eyes would get awfully tired. Also, it improved my mood for the afternoon.

I would really like to go to sleep for a nap but it's a 15 to 20 minute rest with my feet up and eyes shut but never sleep unfortunately.

It seem to refresh me though.

We usually nap for an hour or so every day. My husband sleeps in the recliner for his nap, with the dogs and I lay on the bed. Often I just read and don't fall asleep. I have never been a couch napper, I don't know why.

On days off, you bet I take a nap. Sleep is a great natural healer. The body renews itself during sleep periods.
