Should surgery be videoed?

It could be helpful for teaching and showing patients their condition pre and post. The technology is there as we have seen with police and sports. However, issues of privacy and mistakes present legal issues that could get tricky and expensive. Nevertheless, I would be on board with it should I have to go under the knife and suspect that you agree with me as you always do...

Well I think it's a good idea. In these days when we hear so often about surgery going wrong, then the video could be used to discover exactly at what point the problem may have arisen, so for that alone I believe it would be useful.

My father's career was as a medical/surgical photographer. So this is nothing new. However, the doctors (his customers)
used his services for seminars and teaching.

I'm talking FILM here; not video.

Many surgeries are taped for training but mandatory taping is another story. I would guess now there is a lot more video of at least certain parts of surgeries for training purposes. And with a lot of technology you can get a numerical play back anyway
