Should women be allowed to go topless?

lol..well if everyone was allowed to walk around with everything hanging out...there would no shock value for the flashers..:LOL:
Maybe flashing in a raincoat is intended more often to be an assault. Whereas bare breasts are not intended to offend or create a flight reaction.

who knows.... I think that could be argued in some cases.. Take a drunken night out , very often women who get aggressive..will pull down their tops and flash their boobs.. now one may argue that's an aggressive action..

I once repoed a leased car from a nudist camp outside of Hamilton, Ontario. The gate guard was nude, and so was the person who I contacted at the office. I mentioned the name of the guy who was not making his payments anymore. The secretary said that he was living in Mexico, but the car was parked in the camp ground, so I called my tow truck guy, who laughed when I gave him the name of the 4 seasons nudist park. It all went smoothly. Buda Bing...... Cymbol Crash.........This was in the pre computer days in the early 1990's. I told the dealership's clean up shop to give it a good cleaning, especially the driver's leather seat. Grin. JimB.

Never been to a nudist resort, but from what little I've read, contrary to popular belief, the ones who do go there, don't go to ogle each other's bodies. They go there for the freedom to enjoy the outdoor environments and to just let their bodies breathe. It also has the interesting psychological effect of allowing people to come out of their shells. They don't hide behind their clothes.
There is a clothing optional resort not far from me. I've never been there either, but it is reported that their guests go there for the same reason. In fact, both places mentioned screen out people who they suspect may be going there for viewing.
I've been told the same thing... there's a few nudist beaches near where I have my home in Spain. They're on the same stretch of beach..as the normal sunbathers use, but at the furthest end.. so the nudists must be covered to walk through... . I've never ventured to any of the naturists beaches, but I've been told by a few that there's no ogling..

I think certainly when it comes to men it would become pretty evident if they were ogling

One (of many) reasons I've never gone to such a place. We can't control what our body wants to do, better to keep it hidden... Have been skinny dipping a time or two, but only in a private setting.
I imagine if it were legal everywhere, and indulged in, you may see a lot of signs on Hooters establishments "Going out of business".
Not a bad thing, only went to a Hooters once, it was with others who wanted to go. I remember it pretty well, however no idea what the food tasted like, or even if it was served...

What equal rights means to a woman is subjective, which is the whole purpose of this discussion. If you are told what it is supposed to mean to you by others, there really isn't much point in having your own brain. JMO.
Oh, I agree, those "subjective" women who think baring their breasts is as important as human rights for women really do need a brain :D
You should have a poll, would be nice to see how many women on SF would ditch their tops :)

My wife and I were members of a naturist community outside of Tampa. We owned our own Casita. We visited quite often on long weekends. As far as cleaning the seats, true Naturists do not sit directly on a seat. We carry a sterile cloth we lay down on the seat before sitting on it. This is done to prevent the transference of any STD’s that my be present from another person. It’s also a good idea to use Lysol if you carry it with you.

If you’re interested. It is located in Land O’Lakes and is named (what else) Caliente. It is a very upper class establishment. Most of the place is “clothing optional,” except the pools. You must be nude.

Caliente

It seems if it was allowed everywhere, it may become like topless nudity in movies, which has been going on for about 30 years now. Even in a PG-13 rating, topless exposure happens all the time, and it is just expected, so no big deal.
I have even been in the same room with grandchildren (Teenagers) watching PG-13 movies (I didn't choose them), and women's breasts are shown, and the kids don't even bat an eye. They've acclimated to it.
Perhaps it may be harder to accept for a generation that has grown up without that, and is more sensitive to it.

Sure, if you want to see rape go up about 80%.

One of the problems I can see is that if you allow partial or full nudity, be it for male or female, you are giving an opportunity & an excuse for sex offenders to offend. Look at some of the places that have been on the news where men are walking around exposing themselves, using the excuse (IMO) they are trans, in places that are women-only areas in spas or the local YMCA female locker room where there are young girls. The incident at the LA spa involved a man who was already a convicted sex offender.

On the news the other night there is a naked man walking around an apartment complex at night that was caught on security cameras. I don't believe he was a resident at that complex. Whether he lived their or not, I don't think the residents are non too happy with it since LAPD says there isn't anthing they can do & it's not illegal o_O.

At some point, there will be a lawyer using those laws who would twist them in any why the needed to in order to get the sex offender out of legal trouble.

Didn't mean to get off topic, but it sort of leads into other problems that wasn't thought of.

Also, I've seen some men who should keep their shirt on. You just can't unsee some things.

Well, the OP is more about equal rights more than anything,
Equal rights? Uh... you may want to read up on what ERA/women's rights is really about. Calling this thing you asked an "equal rights issue" seriously weakens what women are *really* concerned about. I have kept out of this conversation purposely for days now, but every time I saw "equal rights" mentioned, I cringed. And I might even go so far as to say attitudes like this is one of the biggest problems about why it never gets as far as it should.

My answer is not about whether or not it should be allowed, but about bringing "equal rights" into it. I apologize if I've stepped on anyone's toes, but as a mid-60s woman, I really hate to see something serious like the fight for equal rights be cheapened into whether or not we should let boobs hang out. And if I say much more, I'll regret it tomorrow, so...

You have a point, there are more important rights to worry about. However it is kind of fun to talk and think about, being taboo will do that.

Oh, come on!

Don't worry I have been restraining myself. too

To think my Granny was a suffragette and to see this makes me mad!

I remember during the beginning of the equal rights movement in the 60s. Women were burning their bras. I still don't understand that one.
