Digger loving the snow...

This Tuesday morning 2/20/24 at 6:50am looked at the Heavenly (ski resort) webcam and found the below exceptional sunrise light on the landscape with 22 inches new snow over 2 days. This is at 8,650 feet. So performed a Snipping Tool rectangular screen capture. After a long 225 mile dawn drive, as one of my 3 season pass Tahoe resorts, I plan to ski there this Thursday and Friday and will lodge Thursday night in South Lake Tahoe.

Although Southern California does have snow in the mountains, winter means RAIN for us. Just right now, I took my pups outside to do their morning business, but it was raining and within three minutes they were back in the dog patio waiting to get into the warm house.

To experience snow, I had to drive with my family 6 hours to Mammoth and June Mountains in the Sierra Nevada, skiing
in altitudes up to 11,000 feet. The last trip wouldn't have been a disaster if we had invited the boyfriends to come along.

Just took the shot this morning. We're in the Selkirk mountains, and this is the view eastward. As you can see in the foreground, snow (which had been 1.5 feet deep) has melted away at ground level around our home. But on the low ridge to the east there's new snow from last night, and the fresh-snow line is pretty discernible. I'd estimate it starts at about 5000 ft elevation.
