Shower water pressure, solved

Problem solved, I was getting so fed up with my daily showers and not getting what I felt was a full streaming flow of water to my liking. What did I do, well what I typically do, looked to youtube, problem solved. Humph! Not going to block me from getting a nice flow of water. Seriously, I'd been wondering why my friend and neighbor had such a great flow, I had stayed with her till my apartment was ready of which during that time, I thought, wow, what great water pressure, though she did have one of those self installed (by male family member,) hand-held shower-heads, but still, I was still expected somewhat a nice flow of water, seemed like my shower head was just dripping the water out of it.

It's a new day, can't wait for my next shower. ;)

So April, how did you fix it? (I love YouTube for home repairs.)

Well at first I tried the old vinegar and water in a baggie tied over the head of the shower, but then that didn't do a thing, so I figured it had to be something else, so leave to to youtube to have the answer, they usually do. Unscrewed shower head and removed a part that was supposedly saving water, if it was just saving water it would of been one thing, but, there was hardly any water coming out of my shower head to the point of serious annoyance.

This is just one of the videos, kind of an annoying one, but, I kind of skipped to the point where it answered my final question to see what I had to do.

You can see the piece interrupting the flow better in this video, I'm posting it because the guy cracked me up because he wasn't satisfied with just getting a regular flow, he supersized his shower head part to get even more water, says if that doesn't work, he'll drill even a bigger hole. I didn't watch the whole video.

Anyway there were bunches of diy videos of this nature some better than others.

The vinegar and baggie thing never worked for me either. I like the flow restrictors because I live in California where we have droughts. But those restrictors can get gunked up. Thanks for posting the video.

I drilled the hole larger in ours. I have no need to "conserve" water as we have our own well and septic. Other than water that is ingested or evaporated all water we use is returned to the environment in a few weeks.

I have that problem regularly with all of our faucets and shower heads and it is because our water in this area is heavily mineralized (hard water). So I regularly take all the faucet and shower heads off and soak them for an hour in CLR or some similar commercial product. I've never tried vinegar but it should work too but it's not as strong so it might take longer. I just soak them for a while in a coffee mug then brush them good with a stiff brush under running water and re-install. Works great!

Regarding the flow restictors, I thought the above suggestions were great!

April, glad you got the shower fixed- gotta have a nice full stream. I always leave out the flow restrictor even though here in California mandatory water is in effect. However, not having a grass lawn does save about a jillion gallons a month. :)
