I would leave it up and keep a close eye on the people that frequent it.
It doesn't make sense to me to close it and scatter the members all over the internet then try to see where they surface.

The government can shut down a website and even confiscate the domain name, BUT, they have to have a judge sign the order after they show cause and the judge agrees that it is in the best interest for all concerned.
Or, the government can just shut down a site and then make the owner of the domain go through a process to have it opened back up, but there is no guarantee that it would happen. The request to reopen it, may be denied by a judge, which would force the domain owner to sue and have a jury trial, then the jury would make the determination.

I am glad they shut them down. First Amendment or not, I think just in the interests of human decency, this "cesspool of hate" has to be shut down. According to the link in the above note, they were also implicated in the New Zealand shootings. Why provide them a convenient platform?

The First Amendment is often abused. It wasn't intended to fuel hatred, slander people as they destroy families, and hurt people in too many ways to list.
It is about the first admendment but 8chan or FCC doesn't already have existing rules or terms of use that could toss the abusers? How many simply post or read a website and acts on nothing negative or positive?
To top it off blame still lies with the killers, not their favorite websites, video games or hobbies. Banning or eliminating after the fact is simply playing the blame game. As long as the blame game is played personal responsibility will be minimized before and after a criminal act.
