Signs, Symbols and Omens, do you believe in them ?

Nope. We don't have pigeons, but we do have lots of white wing doves, which are pretty darn close. And Dave feeds them, so we've got lots of them.

Liberty, I knew about Sam Houston being called "the Raven" but I never heard the story of seeing a bird and deciding to attack. A year or two ago we visited the Battleship Texas and the San Jacinto Monument. Hadn't been in years. Elevators were closed for repair, so we didn't get to go to the top. It's a beautiful monument, and the sneaky architect put the huge Lone Star on top, making it taller that the Washington Monument. Well, it's Texas, after all. LOL!

I avoid ladders - don't need something from above striking my noggin.
I had a totally black cat on our farm, crossed my path many times - I'm still here, the cat isn't.
Spilled salt usually gets brushed off the table without a thought.

Other than those myths that are ignored, being an atheist is my best defense.

I avoid stepping on cracks, didn't want to be accused of breaking my mother's back!

This morning there was an unusual flurry outside my bedroom window, 4 pigeons were flying and flapping around, 3 settled on the roof and one on my window sill, looking in at me....

Google said, ‘Over the years, pigeons and doves have been a symbol of happiness, peace and bliss. ...however, in christian beliefs it was said, if a pigeon appeared on the window of a home, someone in the home would soon die’

Slightly worrying, as I’m the only one who lives here ! 😳

I believe in stop signs.

Omens like peeping pigeons not so much

Yes, it is "The Great State of Texas" isn't it. There is a restaurant not far from us on land where it was said Sam Houston and his "army " stopped to actually ask directions...lol. Our ex business partner's house is on a hill where there is a stone cistern where they camped and drank from. Don't you just love history?!

I do love history! I taught fourth grade only one year, and I loved teaching Texas history. Third grade social studies was bland, but fourth grade was fun! So many great stories about Texas.
One thing you have to say about Texas history, it sure isn't boring. Oh, what you can read about those who came to the Alamo after the battle and what they found. A tough breed of people lived here. Probably still do!

Once when I was walking the dog, this bluejay kept following along, flying from tree to tree making an awful racket. I stopped and told it to shut up. The bluejay began making sounds like it was trying to form words. So I yelled. What did you say? What did you say to me? The bluejay went haw haw haw. Made my skin crawl. That was my omen to get the hell out of there.

I've experienced some strange phenomena that couldn't easily be dismissed as coincidence, but for my own peace of mind, I decided to call these things just that.

As to the birds, I did once call the Sheriff to do a wellness check on my prior neighbors. They said they were going away for a weekend and were not seen in weeks.

What worried me was that black vultures had taken up positions on their roof - and my mind went to dark, scary places. It turns out, the neighbors just decided to spend a few weeks with friends!

In a world of trillions of creatures not one of them means anything. Now if a stranger enters your home now the likelihood of death is real.

I believe in omens for many reasons. Here is one example. About 12 years ago one of our friends was dying of cancer. For some reason one of our daughter's friends decided to give us her nice Volvo car instead of trading it in on a new one. I know we had a good pick up truck at the time and I can't recall if we had a car or not. So our friend said she'd like to go on a ride to look at the wild flowers and other beautiful scenery here in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains. We saw several birds and two different times had to stop and let ducks and another time a white heron cross the road. That was not a regular thing we had to do. But what was really odd was all 3 of us (my husband, our friend and myself) noticed we kept seeing a glove laying on the edge of the road. Three or 4 different times we'd see a glove of some sort laying on the edge of the road. We all commented on it and how strange it was. I looked it up and found out that some believe an empty glove means shedding the old and moving on to something new. Our friend died about a month later. In June it will be 12 years and we miss her.

Also one time 5 or 6 years ago we were driving towards town and in the middle of the day saw a badger sitter beside the road looking at us. That was so weird as their aren't a lot of badgers around here and they never come out during the day. So after we got back home I looked it up and supposedly a badger is to warn us to not let people bully us. At that time in my life I was going through some real hell dealing with a bully.

P.S. This has nothing to do with omens, but our daughter's friend who gave us the car died of the same kind of cancer (breast cancer) that our friend did about 4 years later.
