Silencing a noisy air compressor

I have a little pancake air compressor in my garage, and it works just fine, but it's noisy as hell. It's this model:

So I was looking into cost effective ways to quiet it down. A double layer of drywall, it turns out, is a good sound barrier, so I was thinking about housing the air compressor inside a box made with a double layer of drywall and a simple frame of 2" x 2"s.

Anybody have a better idea?

Ear protectors, and if it's really loud both ear plugs and earmuffs.

Are you talking about making a completely sealed box with only openings for the cord and the hose because don't you have to have enough air available for the unit to compress in the first place?
