Simple things you hear but don't see

The weather was nice today, a little cool but I decided to open the windows to air the house. I left the back door open so the dogs could come and go as they chose. They enjoy just going to lay out and soak up the sunshine.

I am close to the airport, a plane flew over the house, I noted for some reason, I guess I knew people up there were flying to see family, going on vacations to places unknown to me made me stop and really listen.

I often hear train whistles in the night and the local church bells on Sunday. I hear the kids walking to and from school during the week. Shrieks and laughter, parents yelling slow down, wait for me. Those sounds also make me happy. Just little signs that no what is happening, what struggles we face, it is the little things that ground us, give us comfort if we only stop and listen.

Take pause, sit still, listen to the joys of everyday life. There is a bird out there singing just for you.

Way out here, I very rarely hear traffic sounds unless the wind is just right. Mostly its birds, including owls and hawks, coyotes, the rare fox bark, crickets, frogs, etc. Its actually pretty noisy summer evenings.
About 2 years ago, the locusts (Cicadas) made their supposed 17 year emergence. I live in the quiet country, and that was one sound of nature that I was overjoyed about when they went back into wherever they come from. Non stop buzzing, and not that occasional buzz of a passing honey bee, which is comforting by comparison, but a contiual racket that warranted noise reducing head gear... which I don't have.

I have a Robin making my Garden his Home , I think they will be nesting in the Ivy ,
I hear the Trains as I live close to a track , in the night I can hear the heavy goods train they rumble by with a lot of noise .
I hear Sirens during the day from the Emergency Vehicles.
I too live not to far away from an Airport and the flight track crosses in my vision
The Anonov flew in regular and the Heavy sounds of its Engines could be heard, it was destroyed by Russia earley on last year .
I can hear Children at school break time , and on Sundays I hear the local Football teams .

I remember when the pandemic started 3 years ago and the world shut down and there was dead silence but I didn't sleep better and swore I would never complain about the noise of traffic and planes because those things represented normalcy. I prefer barn swallows though. :giggle:

I kept hearing a scuttling noise at night. Thinking my guinea pigs had escaped, I got up to investigate and found them fast asleep. This went on for a few nights until my neighbour informed me that he had found a rat under the floorboards!

I live in an area where all manner of sounds can be heard, but not seen. Someone hammering on whatever, several doors away. The wind blowing, but no leaves on the trees moving. Some of the sounds are musical and might be coming from the University behind our property. Not sure about that. Then there are the planes taking off and landing at the airport about a mile from us.

I hear squirrels running through the woods making you think its deer. The woodpeckers are doing their thing & the Pileated couple are screaming as they fly by.

The first sign of spring for me is when I hear the robins in mass. I know warm weather is here when the frogs start to trill at night.

In the summer, I love the sound of the cicadas in the background.

I hear woodpeckers trying to destroy my house. They are a constant menace. And I hear Sunday's hordes of motorcycles all heading south on Kanan Road towards the iconic Rock Store, their favorite hangout. 1676226114615.jpeg

I hear people pulling into the parking lot behind the Italian restaurant and two bars that are on the main street. Some nights I hear loud music coming from the bars. Later hear people laughing, talking and slamming car doors as they get into their cars after a few drinks. Sirens, a Harley starting up and revving his engine before he takes off (and yes, he drives it year round) and crows. I hear loud crows and sadly, that is about the only bird I hear.

Every Saturday night I hear my neighbors cranking Tejano music through the sub-woofer thats parked in their driveway right next to our bedroom window. They usually start at around 9:30 or 10 and go until I go out there and ask them to stop. My wife works on Sundays so it is a problem they don't seem to understand... all they have to do is move to the back yard and away from our bedroom. There is a city noise ordnance that starts at 10 but they are immune.
