Since my return

It looks like the posts here are divided about whether politics should be left as it is or banned. I (for one) totally agree with Arizona Jim, and think that this is a time when we should bond together and make online friends, and share our thoughts with each other.
Matrix is right that things will carry over from one section of the forum into another section totally unrelated. If someone has just been insulting you in one thread, how likely is it that you are going to want to interact with them in a different thread, or that they will now be friends.
Also, because there are two definite sides politically, it separates people into two different factions, and leads to cliques within the forum.
I belong to another smaller forum, and we had people coming from this forum to the other forum just to start fights; so if the meanness goes clear off the forum, how much more likely is it to permeate this forum completely.

What about putting politics into a group ?
This way the liberals could have their discussions in their group, and the conservatives would have their own group, and then both groups could discuss politics without attacking each other ?

Happy, nah. Where's the fun in that? I like to see others supporting my views (as we all do), but it would be incredibly boring to only converse with those who are echoing my own ideas.

Also, most of us are not as one-sided as that. I am liberal on most issues, but pretty conservative on one or two others. Putting people into a "liberal" or "conservative" box would restrict their thinking. Bad idea.

How about just a group for Politics. Put what's on the forum into a group. Conservatives and Liberals. Groups usually don't get too much action but if you had no other choice...they might.

No harm in trying.

Ive also been on forums where a password is needed to get into a certain board, that's another possibility, if that's an option Matrix has with the software for this forum.

The way it is now, politics shows up in my feed and that's the way I like to look at a forum so that I don't miss any posts, but I wouldn't mind not seeing the political ones.

I think that any of these suggestions would work, CeeCee. Warrigal (as she mentioned elsewhere) already has a group where politics can be discussed, so no one would even need to start a special new group for it, and Warri has over 60 members in her group already.

I think that we can block politics from showing up on our news feed, just like we can block games, and then the only way it would show up is when a person actively looked in that section of the forum.
This is probably what I will do for now, and then we can see what Matrix decides. It looks like the poll is running about even; so I am guessing that the political forum will stay; but maybe with some modifications.

I look at the forum by clicking on "activity stream" and I still see the posts. I tried blocking it but if you view it like I do...that doesn't work.

I can live with either decision as to wether it stays or goes but prefer it gone or hidden. It's not discussing politics that I object to it's the nastiness that I don't care for.

Maybe because I'm one that voted for Trump and it offends me to see posters calling me racist, a nazi, deplorable, etc. when they don't me at all personally but lump every Trump voter into the same group then when I see a post by that person on a generic topic I sometimes don't want to get involved although that person outside of politics is nice.

To be fair, the nastiness goes on both sides of the aisles...so I'm just not complaining about what I feel. I do see some Trump supporters being just as nasty and since nobody is changing their minds, I think it hurts the forum in general.

I know what you mean. Somebody posts on a certain subject and I'm thinking; "Here we go again !"

and the nasties start posting their raving philosophy. I can't get off that thread fast enough !
