Love the aerodynamic engine design .. and as always, the steam!
The bridge looks quite old. Super photo :)

Sir Nigel Gresley was a British railway engineer. He was the designer of some of the most famous steam locomotives in Britain. His A1 Pacific, Flying Scotsman, was the first steam locomotive officially recorded over 100 mph in passenger service, and an A4, number 4468 Mallard, still holds the record for being the fastest steam locomotive in the world at 126 mph.

lOn 3 July 1938, the A4 class locomotive Mallard raced down Stoke Bank at 126mph to set a new steam locomotive world speed record. That record still stands to this day.

I've always preferred trains to any other mode of transportation. The longest trip was 3,000 miles - Vancouver to Toronto, in the winter of 1967. The last was several years ago .. Adelaide to Melbourne, an over-night trip with my daughter who was visiting me in Australia. That was the time I showered on a moving train, quite the experience :ROFLMAO:

The coal was hot. The crew were ready. On July 3rd, 1938, the 4468 Mallard, an A4-class steam locomotive, was performing an alleged brake test for its London and North Eastern Railway owners. What better way to test a new Westinghouse braking system than to run at speed, and then some?

With a veteran driver known for a steady hand at speed and a fireman known for his flying shovel, they set out on the U.K.’s East Coast Main Line, and the streamlined beast steamed away. And away, and away yet, to the tune of 126 mph, a record for steam and perhaps forever still a record for steam.
