Six white Mississippi cops admit torturing black men and shooting one of them

The group, who are all white, admitted to assaulting Michael Corey Jenkins, 32, and Eddie Terrell Parker, 35, after entering a house in Braxton, Simpson County, for around 90 minutes on January 24 with sex toys, firearms, stun guns, milk, eggs, alcohol and chocolate syrup.

The former cops, who worked for Rankin County Sheriff's department and Richland Police Department at the time of the shocking incident, appeared in a federal court and pleaded guilty on Thursday after the civil rights charges were unsealed.

After entering the house, the six former deputies handcuffed the two men, before throwing the food items at them as they lay on the floor.

The men were later forced to strip naked and shower to get rid of any evidence.

The sick cops repeatedly used their stun guns on the pair in a twisted competition to see which department's weapons were more powerful.

Two of the cops, identified as former Rankin Country deputies Christian Dedmond and Jason Opdyke, assaulted one of the men with a sex toy.

During the harrowing 90-minute assault, officers repeatedly used racist slurs against them, and the two men were warned to 'stay out of Rankin County or go back to their side of the Pearl River', an area of Mississippi with a high concentration of Black residents.

Court documents revealed that the officers were initially called over by a White neighbor who had complained that Black people were staying with a white woman who owned the house.

But documents revealed that Mr. Parker was a longtime friend of the homeowner, and was taking care of her at the time.

The sickening episode ended after one former Rankin County cop, Hunter Elward, shot Mr. Jenkins in the mouth after staging a 'mock execution'.

The bullet from his gun, shredding his tongue and breaking his jaw before exiting his neck behind his ear.

Sickeningly, instead of helping the severely injured man, the racist cops planned on planting and tampering with evidence at the house.

I don't think "sex toys, ... milk, eggs, alcohol and chocolate syrup" are standard police issue.
 
It's the Pack mentaility that gets me.. they're supposed to be proffesionals... one bad apple in a 'police'' Barrel.. you can perhaps understand but SIX..and all in the same place at the same time ??... Makes you wonder if they're not the minority !

I think that is the strangest part, and this was premeditated, supplies were procured beforehand that had no legitimate police use... Really hard to imagine.

Now that it has happened I sure hope no good comes to these men...

How about southern black men in groups? Do they make you nervous too? (Not picking on you, Pepper) Anyone could have said it.

My point here is NOT to excuse what the white cops did or what the black cops did. I do think it's important that we always realize inhumanity exists among all people groups and it is so very often horrible and impossible to understand why.

It amazes me and in ways it destroys me to think what human beings can do to other human beings. Dear God, why??

I also believe that northern men and western men and eastern men can be capable of depraved actions, as well. Speaking of men, does anyone think women are exempt from the pack mentality? I sincerely doubt it but I'm not going looking for an example. This has made me sad enough.
 
These are an example of police applicants of who became a cop for power. Not to serve and protect.

Unfortunetly there will always be issues like this but they can be greatly reduced if not eliminated with training alone. This is an example of what not to do and should be as a training example. It's a simple reminder. Don't need hours of lectures, classes etc. Get right to point.
 
I'm an old white widow in metro Atlanta. I have 2 black men living with me. They help me feel safe. We live in a diverse neighborhood and the arrangement does not seem out of the ordinary. Things might be different in other parts of the city.

These cops knew what they were doing was wrong, and no training would have fixed that. However training is needed and should make all more aware of signs of problems and to report them. Not something that comes naturally to the police. Its the good cops who will listen and benefit from training.

Yes, not about cops or their training, it's about extreme racist attitudes that persist in parts of the South. By the way, I am not picking on the South, but I do know the what's what there. No doubt someone could point out a thousand examples of anti-black racism in the North, but that's of a different stripe.

They were racist and criminal but they need to show this incident through it's entirety including the trial and penalties. It' also about discipline because they had no fear or getting caught. Their attitudes should've been revealed during the application process or initial training/academy.

The department also has to emphasize this crap opens up the department to lawsuits and if they have to payout too much they are out of a job.
 
I have to wonder where they find these people? These six morons are going to cost their county millions of dollars, not to mention they will have to raise taxes and I wouldn’t be surprised if all of the deputy sheriff employees will be questioned and polygraphed.

I have a friend that is a PA State Trooper and we were talking about this and he thinks each deputy will have to undergo a new vetting procedure and be polygraphed to make sure they aren’t or weren’t part of this wrecking ball. He said usually, each employee is effected somehow when something like this happens and I can understand why.

It just makes me wonder what’s wrong with people? People need to join the here and now movement.

I think we are talking about millions for payouts. I doubt if that little burg has enough money or insurance to cover the damages that will be awarded. The village could very well default on the payout and then what? These citizens could see their taxes at least double, assets may have to be sold and the U.S. Government may be forced to loan the burg money to cover the payout. I don’t know if the Government still does that or not. I wouldn’t accept any IOU, that’s for sure.
 
Rules don't always work for police departments or for life in general. We can all see that. If someone wants to convey a particular message or attitude they will always find a way to get around the rules even if they've been disciplined.

It's hard for me to see how a group of guys in a police department can employ that group think and it not be seen and dealt with by higher ups. The punishment shouldn't stop with the lower ranks that carry these things out but should also take out the bad leadership that turned a blind eye to it.

It may not be right to say start with the mayor and fire everyone in the chain of command down to the janitor but it sure is tempting.
