Six-year-old in custody after shooting teacher

there was a time when a firearm was considered a tool, an extension of the arm, something that should be handled with respect, not the glamorized or romanticized accessories of today. though lately, if it's not guns it's whatever is within reach... like somebody just pushed the self-destruct and the timer is ticking on the suicide watch.

A big part of the problem is certain media outlets that keep their audience perpetually outraged and scared, and they do that by lying to them. Covid vaccines are a good example. They've been proven to be safe, over and over, but their media adherents are convinced that it's a conspiracy by shape-shifting reptilian aliens to keep us under control when we all know that it's a Jewish cabal that wants to eat our children and drink our blood. It's just common sense.

NOTE: That's a joke. (Some people need to be told.)
How have they been proven to be safe over and over???

I live in a state that allows open carry and it doesn’t make me feel safe. In fact if I see a gun I leave the area immediately. If I am at a store or restaurant I also leave.

No one is going to want to send their kids to school or work in one if we don’t get a handle on the situation.
I agree, but what, exactly, would be a lawful solution?

I mean, we could go extra-legal, martial law, search, and confiscation, but...

That seems facetious, but seriously, how, exactly, to extract ourselves from this situation without junking large parts of the constitution? I think it can be done over a period of 20-50 years, but when you read some of the posters here who want a solution, none of them seem amenable to a process that takes that long.

Sawfish, I really don’t have the answers. Also people like to hunt and it does for example keep the deer from starving by keeping the numbers down. I am assuming the countries with no guns allowed don’t allow hunting.

The real problem is that weapons can now fire many shots rapidly and I read even if you can’t buy them people can modify an existing gun easily.

Initially I was thrilled to get the Covid vaccine 3xs. The first variant was killing many older people. But now people are getting blood clots, 2 people in my building had issues. One lost all her hair and none of the treatments brought it back and one has permanently leg pain and can’t walk very far.

But long Covid is no joke either. Every time I get the vaccine I am really sick in bed for 4 days. For now I am done but could change my mind if large numbers of people start dying again.

Ultimately it will give them real power if they successfully disarm an entire population.
I think if the government wants to enslave people they can do it regardless because their weapons would greatly outperform citizen’s guns. It really might depend on how many citizens would fight but they could use drones to target resistance. It’s probably just a fantasy that guns protect us from tyranny. It was true when the constitution was written.

the turbulent environment here in the americas and any large metropolitan forced me to move my family up to our mountain farms in the visayas (central philippines.) part of my youth was spent there where there are strong family ties, a broad safety net, and lots of aunties and uncles.

i don't expect my son, möbius, to be free from all the harmful elements but internet access is limited and it's the best i can do.

much of our toys and games as children include firearms and weaponry. if those toys are treated with more reverence and used as teaching tools (with extra adult supervision) children may grow to know the harm they can bring. true, some may turn out to be killers too but that may be observed early on.

And this is how every country should control firearms. One of the many reasons that I'm proud to be a Canadian.
Thanks for your kind words. We ( as a country ) still have some changes to be made to our firearms regulations to do away with the semi automatic rifles that allow rapid fire without reloading. Genuine hunting rifles that are bolt operated , which require you to manipulate the bolt for each shot fired are OK with me, as are shotguns with a 4 round limit. The volume of fire that a semi auto rifle can put out in 60 seconds is totally nor required in any hunting situation. A second big concern is the VERY large number of illegal hand guns being smuggled in to Canada by criminals , which are being used by our own home grown thugs. The Toronto Police Service estimates that at least 80 percent of the hand guns they seized last year originated in the USA. We need to find a way to cut off that source. JimB.

Just curious as to what console games this child was allowed to play, there was no confrontation whatsoever, he just shot her.
A slight correction......The kid displayed the hand gun in the classroom, the teacher attempted to take it away from him, and he shot her in the abdomen. Source: Media reports in the past 3 days. JimB.

You didn't answer the question. If they have been proved to be safe over and over again, who says so? Pfizer? The CDC? WHO? Someone else bought and paid for by the government?

“These results show convincingly that this mRNA vaccine is very safe and that the alternative of ‘natural’ morbidity caused by the coronavirus puts a person at significant, higher, and much more common risk of serious adverse events,” Balicer said.

Roughly 12 months of data, including data from tens of thousands of participants in clinical trials, show that the vaccines are safe and effective at preventing serious disease or death due to COVID-19.

The overall pooled incidence rate was 1.5% (1.4–1.6%) for adverse events, 0.4 (0.2–0.5) per 10 000 for severe adverse events, and 0.1 (0.1–0.2) per 10 000 for death after vaccination.

School administrators received a tip before the shooting that the boy had a gun. They searched his backpack but didn't find one, so they let him go to class. The police were never notified.

There was no struggle between the boy and the teacher.

"The Jan. 6 shooting occurred as Zwerner was teaching her class. Authorities said there was no warning and no struggle before the 6-year-old boy pointed the gun at Zwerner."

The family of the boy released a statement...

Our family has always been committed to responsible gun ownership and keeping firearms out of the reach of children. The firearm our son accessed was secured,” the family said.
“Our heart goes out to our son’s teacher and we pray for her healing in the aftermath of such an unimaginable tragedy..."
Our son suffers from an acute disability and was under a care plan at the school that included his mother or father attending school with him and accompanying him to class every day."
We continue to pray for his teacher’s full recovery, and for her loved ones who are undoubtedly upset and concerned. At the same time, we love our son and are asking that you please include him and our family in your prayers,” according to the statement.

Religious zealots with a son with, I assume behavioral disabilities, shouldn't be allowed to keep firearms in their homes. They must know how the child was able to access the handgun but they're lying to protect themselves.

This was a tragedy just waiting to happen.

Yeah, I call B.S. on this, too. I'd like to know what they mean by saying "the firearm our son accessed was secured." Evidently, it wasn't secured well enough. But no matter. Prayers will make everything better.

Oh, so that's where the altercation came in.
However that's not what the Teacher said when she spoke to Police, she said he pulled the gun out, and she raised her left hand in a sign of surrender and he shot the gun through her hand and into her chest.. there was no confrontation, or attempt to remove the gun.

Even after she was shot, she led the rest of the children to safety before collapsing

So where were the parents on the day of the shooting..?

The story makes no real sense, as I read it. It's just a lot of posturing by all parties.

BTW, I don't read the mentioning of "praying" for this and that as any real indication of a religious background, merely an attempt to sound concerned.

It reads like a statement provided by an attorney.

What's plain enough is that the authorities don't know what the hell to do with this case. They seem to be afraid of looking bad. Not entirely sure why, just yet. It's clear that you can't throw the kid into jail, and it does seem like the parents are lying thru their collective teeth about the gun being secured. The simple fact that he brought it to school in a dischargeable condition indicates that it was NOT secured.

The local authorities act like they're waiting for the whole thing to go away.

Does anyone know what type of gun it was, and by this I mean revolver or semi-automatic?
