Did you ever ice skate or rollerskate when you were young. Do you still? Did you enjoy it? Were you good at it?

I used to ice skate every winter. My mom never learned to skate so my dad made sure I learned when I was just a tot. I loved it and would skate for hours on end breaking only for a cup of hot cocoa sold at the concession nearby. In jr high and high school I went skating with my girlfriends to hook up with the boys. They'd whip us around on the ice until we became dizzy and we loved it.

I was a good skater, but not an olympian for sure. It gave me something to look forward to in winter. It was a lot of fun. I'm not as graceful on rollerskates. I don't ice skate anymore, but I could do it if I had to.

I only tried ice skating once, but roller skated all the time beginning at age 7. Got a pair with a key for my 7th birthday. Went to roller rinks in high school and bought my own proper pair in my 20's.

I did ice skate when I was young but not after I was about 15. It is not a big thing over here, so maybe that was why I stopped. I remember that my friend's dad had a job driving the Zamboni at the rink and he would get us in for free through a back door.

For a couple of my teen years my feet were on a skateboard more than the ground. I reserved roller skating for the roller-skating rink, and, aside from the cubes in my glass, I haven't seen much ice in my lifetime.

I just about lived at the roller skating rink when I was in elementary school and into junior high. There was a rink within walking distance and another one not too far away. My father and I often went skating at a huge rink on Sunday afternoons. He had been a roller derby star in his teen years and was also quite the roller dancer. I loved skating with him.

That's so cool, about your father, jujube. You must have been so proud to be skating with such a pro :)
I had the metal skates with the key, like Annie had. Went everywhere on those things. Never did graduate to the proper ones that came along.

I loved to do both. When I was very young I had roller skates that clamped on my shoes. My Dad taught me how to ice skate but usually the ice wasn't good on the ponds and lakes nearby. If it snowed you had to clear the snow,if it was windy it made the ice choppy. When I was a teen I went to the roller rink most every Saturday. I roller skated with my kids when they were young also. The photo is of my Dad and I in 1956. I had a nice skating skirt and sweater but my Mom thought I would be cold so she made me wear a jacket and pants with it. I thought I looked silly that way.skatinggif.gif

I used to roller skate. I got a pair of skates from my parents and skated up and down the street. We went to the roller skate rink and that was a lot of fun. I tried it a few years ago and fell on my face. I can't do it any more.

Oh my, roller skating was my thing for sure. As a young child my neighbor friend had a pair of the outdoor skates with the key. I didn't have any and she shared and we would go down a hill each of us having one skate. The best of days. Then as I got older we went to a skating rink and I thought I was good, but not really. Loved the feeling of the wind in my face and the feeling of freedom.
