Skin Ring, Did You Ever Have One?

I've worn my wedding band every day since I got married over 40 years ago. I weighed around 118 lbs. back then, and now I'm in the low 150s, so the ring has become tighter on my finger for sure. Around a month ago, something bit my ring finger and I was rubbing it and scratching it because it was super itchy, driving me nuts and that's a really short drive. :p

Anyhoo, my husband looked at my hand and said my finger looked really swollen and maybe I should take the ring off. I had to put some lotion on my finger to get it off, but the finger did swell up and it felt good to get the ring off. I missed wearing the band, so a couple of days ago I went to put it on again, and I couldn't get it on without lotion, so I left it off.

Even after a month, I still have the indented 'skin ring' on my finger, and I'm thinking that may never go away since that ring was on me 24/7/365 for all those years. Do you, or did you ever have a skin ring that wouldn't go away?

Years ago my husband bought me a promise ring that had to be cut off because I’d gained too much weight and it was cutting off my blood circulation. My ring wasn’t on for nearly as long but I did have a ring mark that went away after a while. Yours might not but I don’t know.

How do you know it was cutting off your circulation Keesha, did your finger change color?

I kept my wedding band on for 30+ years before finally taking it off for good when I left my husband. I had an indentation and whitish band on my finger for many months. It ultimately filled in and colored up, but after wearing a ring continuously for all those years, that finger felt just sort of naked.

When Ron proposed and put an engagement ring on my finger, it felt NORMAL again for the first time in 15 years!

Oh yes. I was in a clinical depression taking Effexor and gained an enormous amount of weight. My finger was hurting and changing colour so my husband got out some huge cutters and cut it off. I don’t know what happened to my ring but my finger felt much better.

I have since lost the weight and never wore a other ring after that.

Gosh, no. My fingers are slim anyway and I take my wedding ring off a lot because it's valuable. I mean, I don't sleep or bathe with it on or do dishes or household cleaning. I wear it for everything else, but no skin rings on me thankfully. Sounds like gaining weight could be part of the problem?

Yes, gaining weight over the years didn't help, but never had a problem with the band until that bug bite and swelling, I think it still may be a bit swollen. I wouldn't want to lose much more than 5 pounds at this time and not sure that would make a difference. My engagement ring I rarely wear because like you I do a lot of outdoor work, cleaning, etc. and it was always looser than the band and I was always concerned about losing the diamond.
