Sleep Aids, Do You Use Any That Are Not Prescription Sleeping Pills?

I take one Ambien and get a good night's sleep. Melatonin, Valerian, et al do nothing at all for me. Sometimes I just skip the Ambien and take 2 adult aspirin and get the same results, but not often. Been on this regime for years and stays the same. Never repeat the Ambien in one night.

I have tried Melatonin many times. It puts me to sleep for a few hours and then I wake up drowsy but jittery. Benadryl just makes me nervous.

Funny story... I was taking Ambien several years ago. It used to take about an hour to kick in. I was attending a cocktail party that ended at 10pm so I took one shortly after 9pm. I passed out at the table talking to a co-worker and someone had to take me back to my room at the hotel. I didn't even remember it. I went for a meeting the next morning and everyone asked if I was okay. I had no idea what they were talking about until someone explained what happened. Never again.

My mother was prescribed Trazodone for sleep. It is non-narcotic so I don't have to visit the doctor for refills. I read that decades ago it was used to treat depression. The doctor prescribed 100mg and that knocked me for a loop. I take a quarter of one each night and sleep like a baby. It can also lower blood pressure, and since I've suffered from depression and low blood pressure in the past I feel like I'm getting a bonus with my sleep.

I would love to find something over-the-counter, but I just haven't found anything natural that can put me to sleep and keep me asleep.

Usually, reading my Kindle works well to put me to sleep. I've been doing it for so long, that it is a requirement. Of course, sometimes the book is so good that I end up reading all or half the night.

Tylenol PM generic mostly. It works but after many years I get only a few extra hours of sleep.
Not addictive.
