Sly Stone originally Sylvester Stewart, organist and lead singer of Sly and the family Stone has died. I really enjoyed the funk style they brought to rock music in the early '70's. R.I.P.

Rest in peace, Sly.🌹 Thanks for the music. 🎶

Sly Stone's impressive lead vocal performance of "On The Battlefield" (1952) when he was just 8 years old.

Backing Vocals – Freddie Stone, Rose Stone, Vaetta Stewart
Piano – Loretta Stewart

DD alerted me to this when she saw the news yesterday, knowing i was a HUGE fan. Even saw him and Family Stone's live concert in Honolulu. 1973 i think. Posted a notice there about it. Adding some of us will be forever grateful for the music and lyrics he gave us.

Got curious about his age so went and read his obit. What a great singer, songwriter and performer he was. Oh, and it says he died of COPD, which I have had for nearly 20 years ad it's getting worse.

Sly Stone, Maestro of a Multifaceted Hitmaking Band, Dies at 82
Oh no, I'm sorry your COPD is getting worse.

My ex husband ( DD's dad).. has COPD... and he is very poorly with it. He's 69 now.. and was always a very vibrant go getter type.. a really good looking guy all the women were after even when we were teenagers... now the COPD..has taken it's toll, and just the sheer act of cooking his meals is so exhausting for him, and he can barely breathe with the slightest effort.. .. he's skin and bone because he hardly eats... and worse still he got Prostate cancer 2 years ago.. and even tho' they caught it early he's still undergoing treatment for that !

I always loved his band. I remember buying his greatest hits album on vinyl. I was the only one in my family that was into his music. I even had a Sly and the Family Stone tee shirt at one time.

How many times in the past 60 years, have I heard and played these songs over and over again?

There is a yellow one that won't accept the black one
That won't accept the red one that won't accept the white one
Different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and scooby-dooby-dooby

How many times have I sung along to those words?

R.I.P. Sly, and thanks for all of those great musical memories.

All the squares go home!
