An earthquake has shaken parts of Wales overnight.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) said the 3.7 magnitude quake happened at 23:59 GMT on Friday. The epicentre was just north of Brynmawr, Blaenau Gwent, and west of Crickhowell, Powys.

BBC journalist Alex Humphreys said she felt the “mini earthquake” in Cardiff, 30 miles (50km) away.

Gwent Police said it had received “multiple calls” overnight but it was “business as usual” for the force.

The BGS said the earthquake was 1.8 miles (3km) under the Earth’s surface.

“My whole bed shook,” Ms Humphreys tweeted. Others described it as a “scary” experience.

Going back to my days of reading The Big Atlas and in particular about Volcanoes and Earthquakes. If I remember correctly, wherever an earthquake takes place in the world, then an opposite place straight through on the globe would feel a diminished but noticeable earthquake.

Haven't got the globe out to check just now but probably Wales is on the same line through Earth for Turkey-Syria. It would explain the arrival of this one today in the news feed this morning.

Here's hoping that makes sense.

It does and we are...but a lot of tremors around here are caused by collapsing mine workings.
i was lying in my bed listening to the cricket.
My bed shook..but I thought nothing of until someone mentioned it on another forum.
Then it dawned on me....

Cornwall was hit by an earthquake this morning as locals said they felt a 'rumble' and houses 'shake' as the earth moved beneath them.

The quake - which had a magnitude of 1.5 on the Richter scale - began in Penryn, two miles west of Falmouth.

The British Geological Survey said the earthquake, which struck at around 6.30am, had a depth of 1.25 miles (2km).
A user on website Volcano Discovery said they felt a light shaking which lasted between five and ten seconds in Helston. They described the quake as: 'Rolling rumble. Sound not too dissimilar to a long rumble of thunder.'

This morning's earthquake does not appear to have caused any significant damage to the area, as Volcano Discovery described it as merely a 'light shaking'.

Some reports say the impact was felt 14 miles away in Porthleven.
