does any one have one of these at there house, your insureance might not cover you, for they catch on fire easily. mark55

I haven't for the simple reason I can't see how they save you money. As for them being a fire hazard -I haven't heard that before.

Yes we have one but had no choice since they were installed by our electrical company. We do however have a protective cover over it which we purchased independently.

They're being pushed in the UK, but you don't have to have one. They don't save electricity unless you constantly monitor it and become obsessive about your power use - and then the men in white coats drag you away. (I have heard reliable tales of (especially older) people, sitting in the dark because they had become frightened by the constant reminder of their energy use)

As for being a fire hazard - sounds like a scare story.

I have had one for a few years now, the only
difference I see is no meter readings needed,
no strangers calling to check the meter.

Other than the above everything stays the same,
the price keeps going up and the bills keep arriving.
Oh, and there is a daily cost of a few pennies maybe
for the meter or the lines, but the cost is on both the
electricity and the gas even though they use the same
meter.

i had a meter fitted early this year.as most of yer say it saves on reading your meter. also included was a smart monitor so that yer can see whot amount of electric is being used. this just plugs into any mains socket in your house.this monitor shows how much electric is being use. for one day or for past week an past month.which is handy if yer want to keep check on whot yer using
it can also run off 3 AA batterieS. now i was shock after using batteries fer only 4 days the batteries need to be replace !!. these batteries were expensive.
now i do not use it at all as it made me think that this monitor may also use a lot of electric to run it ? a sneakie move by the electric company me thinks..

I have had one for a number of years..Neighbor had a problem, the lugs where not pushed in all the way and caused arcing ( so). The electric company came out and fixed it..According to the electric company there would have not been a problem!!!!(???????)
