Last week I was told by a periodontist there is a white spot on my tongue and he showed me the picture. He said it could be cancerous from my smoking years. I quit 27 years ago. While I get chest x-rays every couple years looking for a start of lung cancer but oral cancer never dawned on me. Well folks, he showed me about 30 pictures of oral cancer. Honestly, if you saw those photos you would take this very seriously. Today I was scheduled for a biopsy on the area of my tongue but the spot has shrunk. He believes the spot was due to my biting my tongue the day before my first visit. So no biopsy today but I have to monitor that area. So, the bottom line to all tobacco users current and former see a dentists once in a while. It could save you life.
