So frustrated at the few self-entitled folks here...

...who don't have either the decency or self control to abide by the no politics rule.

What's the point in the rest of us participating on this board only to have a few members who for whatever reason decide they're entitled to post their politics regardless of the rules. Winds up in threads getting locked or deleted which I understand because cleaning up threads takes a lot of time and Matrix is moderating alone.

Feels pointless to invest in the time to engage here ....to study an issue, formulate a response if a few feel they're too important to respect the rules of the forum and just have to get their political posts in knowing that the result is that they're going to negate everyone else's time and effort to communicate with one another.

There does seem to be a lot of political discussion, lately. Some peeps have mentioned that the ban is only on partisan politics, but what is posted on the Current Events board is, "No politics please!" Maybe I've missed another place where is specifies?

I haven't noticed threads getting locked or deleted because I tend to tune out when they get political. But I can understand frustration with that, especially if the thread did not start out with politics as a focus, but got pulled in that direction.

One member has decided she's an exception to forum rules and is taking a Current Events thread in that direction. Once a person decides to post politics, others will reply and there goes the thread.

This thread/link makes it all clear... and yes, there are a few who just can't seem to resist.
Politics is not allowed here

Guess I should revise the OP to add trolls to the entitled people group but then again trolls are pretty entitled so guess they're included.

Thank you for that link. :)

ETA: To be honest, I'm kind of disappointed as I would prefer no politics at all. But a no partisan politics rule should keep the contention out of the posts/threads. Or it would if people followed it.

WOW......I learned my lesson. I was banned two days for responding to politics in a thread. It said today at 10am it was lifted. I try to log in after 10 and it said I was BANNED with no mention now of when it ended. I though "oh Sh** Im gone now. I had seen a few political posts over the last couple of years. And engaged but nothing happened so I thought its ok if I don't call people names.....It is hard to ignore current events that have to do with our lives.

But I am not a total idiot so I will be MUCH more restrained. I like this place. But are we not all adults? Some forums have places where people can discuss adult things like politics. But I get it. Glad to be back here......

You're very welcome for the link. As for the "at all" part, I personally think that would be too difficult to maintain. That would cover all kinds of topics from abortion to gun control to lifestyle choices, immigration, etc. Any of those things eventually turn to "politics" and a ban on all of it would be too far reaching. (IMO)

Poor @Matrix , he's asked, and asked, and asked.. people to stop with the politics.. altho' he does say himself that it's Partisan politics that he doesn't want to see mainly....

It's hard for him having many countries as members, and so to ban all politics in the USA would men banning world wide politics.. so it's very difficult.. to police...

I try my hardest to stay away from the Political threads

So this appears to be the real motive for the "so frustrated" thread. Have to tried using the "Report" button?

It's the latest example of an ongoing problem and leads to deleted or locked threads which if you'll read the OP again are what frustrates me. It takes a lot of time to clean up a thread (been there, done that) and it's incredibly rude to put that burden on Matrix.

I tend to think of politics as pertaining to government, but I can see where the topics you mentioned could/would easily lead back to that.

Do you ever look at news sites? Apparently, the only news is political and intended to get you talking about it.

If you hold strong political views, what you've read can be on your mind all day. So sometimes it drives someone to want to say something.

I blame the internet propaganda machines that relentlessly put their incensing stories out there more than I blame posters on a forum.

As long as Matrix enforces the forum rules, it will keep it in check.

I didn't join this group to talk politics. I came here to feel good, not argue with people I don't know. The subject is too divisive and the discussion of it serves no real purpose. These days at least in the US it is pretty black and white and there are no minds that will be changed. My philosophy on online political discussions in a nutshell...

Either you agree with me like most thoughtful people do so fist bump, lets move on.

Or you disagree with me like many mentally challenged people do so fist bump, you have a bit of drool on your chin, lets move on.

It's easy to just stop reading a thread if you don't like its tone. It's also very easy to skip certain posters comments, I don't even put them on ignore, I just skip their postings.

If a thread gets shut down that's too bad but nothing to get upset about, that's just life on the internet.

Matrix made the Report button for a reason, but feel free to continue airing your frustration.

Yep, the easy route, rather than butting one's head against the wall.
