So many music posts, very few dealing with the 50s music scene

The 50s saw the birth of rock and roll.
All that followed was profoundly influenced by the sounds of the 50s.
The Andrews Sisters. 1941 What goes around, comes around. Christina Aguilera.52 years later 1993. The point I am making is that there might have been what looks like a new era in the 1950's, but previous generations enjoyed that type of music but they had to be polite, wear subdued clothing, deal with world war. They called it The Swing era, and believe you me, it had nothing to do with wife swapping!

I was born in 53 but the only songs I remember hearing in 50’swas this one, Honeycomb, Tom Dooley and some Hank Williams:
Yeah, that was the beginning of the folk music craze: The Hilltoppers, The Weavers, The Kingston Trio were huge, Harry Belafonte. Later Peter, Paul & Mary, Burl Ives, Simon & Garfunkel, and on an on.

I must have first heard Hank, Sr. around 1950-52. As a kid I used to visit my grandparents near Athens, Ohio in the summers, and the farmer next door kept an old radio on the front porch. I remember some of Hank's songs from that era: "Hey, Good Lookin'", "Your Cheatin' Heart", and many others. IMO Hank Williams, Sr. was the greatest country singer of all time. Such a short life...

My older sister graduated in 64 and I finished in 68. She loved Elvis, not much of anything else while in high school. I was into Rock and Roll, Beatles, Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, etc. etc. Our house was filled with Rock and Roll for 8-10 years. Our parents were very tolerant of all the "noise"...
