So many one hit wonders over the years

‘The Hustle’ was already a popular dance that had emerged in the early 1970's in Latin circles and was brought to Van McCoy’s attention when a New York DJ took him to a local nightclub to check it out. McCoy loved seeing people dancing together again, he once said it reminded him of ballroom dancing and he wrote ‘The Hustle’ in an hour. ‘The Hustle’ catapulted him into the spotlight and helped fuel a pulsating disco frenzy.
Van McCoy was only 39 when he died of a heart attack on July 6, 1979. But he lives on via: “The Hustle”

A Staten Island, New York doo wop group called The Elegants saw their re-worked version of the Mozart lullaby, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" hit the top of the US record charts as the re-titled "Little Star".
The group spent the following eighteen months milking the song for all it was worth with TV appearances and live shows, but follow up records, "Please Believe Me", "True Love Affair" and "Little Boy Blue" could not match the success of "Little Star".
Although The Elegants would be around in one form or another until the 1980s, they never had another hit record.

A bit more trivia about Doris Troy. I went to see Mama I Want To Sing in New York. The play was by Vi Higginsen, who was a radio deejay at the time. I did not realize until my BFF told me, that the play was actually about Doris, who was Vi's sister. If I remember correctly, that wasn't made clear during the performance. Doris played their mother in the production. My BFF got the 411 because she's good friends Hazel, who is Vi's good friend. In fact, Hazel took over as narrator for Vi when she had to be away for a performance or two . Doris co-wrote the music for the play. The play was performed internationally. I didn't realize that Doris died 21 years ago! Mama, I Want to Sing! (musical) - Wikipedia

Also I have a book titled One Hit Wonders. I'll have to look in there and see what's mentioned. Right now it's helping to keep my shoe cubby level. :)

I saw them several times at doo wop concerts in NYC. Richard Nader's Original Doo Wop at the Garden (Madison Square Garden), & The Royal New York Doo Wop Show, at Radio City Music Hall. The lead singer was Vito Picone.

Some good memories then.
I am glad that posting old songs bring back memories from peoples past.

A bit of a gentle 'boppy' tune - according to the English version (of which were lyrically different).

The German version "99 'Luft balloons" had a rather more back story, that of unidentified objects by military radar, which escalates into a misunderstanding that triggers a nuclear war, resulting in a world in ruins was rather sombre.

Watching the version on U-Tube with lyrics shows the (somewhat frightening) difference, though it's the one which I prefer, it's a tad more melancholic, - being 6 years before the Wall came down
