How do you rate us as a species? What do we need work on if we do need work? What are our assets? Also lets be considerate to all with this topic, thank you so much. Remember, no politics.

Here is Wikipedia's Take on Humans:

Do you think we are the greatest species and why? Do you think we are less than great and why?

Hell no we ain't the greatest. Dinosaurs ruled the Earth for something like 180 million years. We ain't even gonna get anywhere near close to that.

I wasn't even done making the thread when you posted.

Most of us are OK. The rest should be done away with. Sooner the better.

Ya asked, so THAT's my opinion.

That's the way I feel about it too.

Now the question is are your OK's the same as my OK's?

Probably not.

I think the human race is doing OK for the most part. Since our time is just about over, we'll never get to see how it all turns out. I am hopeful for the future of our children.

Cool. Unless there is an after life we won't see, yes..and I am doubtful about an after life. I'm not as hopeful as you about the future with the ones who will fill our shoes.

The current issue of Smithsonian, that I haven't read thoroughly yet, has an article about how the humanoids may have interbred with the Neanderthals, & have reported before the possibility of different species combining to form what became today's "human" after the evolutionary dead ends died out. So there is probably still room for improvement, give or take a few dozen thou yrs.

Yes, many have Neanderthal DNA, especially in and around Italy, I've read. Then there's the Denisovians…. and others.

What Do You Think Of Human Beings As a Species?
As compared to what?

Yes, I agree, room for improvement and I'd like to hear more about that Geezerette. Thanks.:sentimental:

It's an open ended question, interpret it as you wish~~~~~~~

Mankind is FAR from ideal. We are selfish, cruel, wasteful, hostile, etc but we do have some great specimens as well. If we lost our negatives how could we justify WAR?

I agree on plenty of room for improvement CC but what makes us the best species? :sentimental:

I would say our brains and our potential for improvement.

It depends what you’re looking at....a bear is better at surviving a winter outside than we are, especially without clothes. :)

But we’ve figured out how to adapt and we keep doing it...it did take a very long time to evolve to where we are now though.

I voted for 'needs work'. I think we could be doing much better after all this time, it seems like we're destroying ourselves with poisoning our foods, water, air and plants with chemicals that cause cancer and other ailments. Greed has overcome common sense in many areas, IMO, our intelligence seems to be of little benefit overall. We could do so much better if we respect other humans and mother earth, but I don't see that happening any time soon. Also, animals kill for survival, we kill for selfish reasons or hatred, never a good thing.

Humans that try to lead productive and responsible lives, and not be a burden to others, unless old age or illness slows them down, are the "good guys", IMO. The criminals, terrorists, and those who think "the world owes them a living", can all go for an extended swim in the ocean. There is probably 10% of the global population that makes things difficult for the remaining 90%.
