I had the same problem in North Florida, even though I am originally from Louisiana my accent has mostly faded. In Utah people think I have a bit of a southern accent. In Louisiana and Florida the locals think I am a Yankee.

Accents are funny, both of my parents were born and raised in Louisiana and my mother had the accent strong and clear to her dying day. Even though she lived all of the country as an adult. My father on the other hand, from a very small town in southwest Louisiana, never had a detectable accent.... Of course I could not hear my parents' accents I had to rely on others to tell me.

Yes, that's way north of me, but still in Hartford county. Border of Massachusetts.

I was born in Watertown, NY and moved to Detroit, Mich shortly thereafter. It was there that my mother was diagnosed with a mental illness and permanently hospitalized in Yipsilanti, Mich. From that time I lived in multiple homes in multiple areas - Richmond, Mich, back to Detroit, then on to Baldwinsville, New York, Then to Phoenix, NY for 3 years- then back to Baldwinsville for 6 years where I graduated high school. Then I moved to Syracuse, New York for college. I met my second husband there after I returned from Las Vegas and a divorce from my first husband.. We married and moved to Anaheim, Calif for a year then up to Sacremento for 6 years. There I decided to go back to nursing school and get my degree (I had completed 3 years of a 4 1/2 year program at Syracuse) Once I graduated, I took my first job with The VA here in Vancouver in 1978 - and I have been here ever since - and have no desire to go anywhere else. The one other place I really liked was Hawaii, but the cost of living there was much more than I could afford. In the 60's I decided I didn't hate motorcycles anymore and traveled through every state here in the US. We have a gorgeous country!
 
I'm from High Point, NC and there is no way it would be my favorite place to live. I live in Dallas, TX now and it is my favorite place to live, despite the mass shootings and the questionable decisions by some of the people at the top. I still have a great quality of life here.
 
born and bred in 'beatle country' Liverpool - as a 10yr old could walk anywhere in the city centre or suburbs with no fear or danger unless self inflicted - I have been back after 40 yrs and some remaining rellies tell of the mayhem and drug addiction amongst some of the young. My parents sorta seen this coming in the late 50's and we all moved out into the next county of green fields; cows and a healthier life style. We all flourished there ; got serious education and then moved out to fresher fields. From then on I avoided city living which just seemed to grow drug addicts for many reasons and crime. in the early '80's I had had enough and headed to Australia - they let me and the family in with open arms and we prospered from then on even more? I believe sitting in one place is not always productive and it's healthy to move on - was for me anyways?

You must love snow and if you don’t, you were living in the wrong places.

You could have got a job making furniture. I have been there and gave a recruiting speech like a headhunter at High Point University. I had a good many people interested and I think we ended up with close to a dozen registrants, which is good for the size of the school.

I was there during the show in the fall, (I think) and bought my Grandma a new “Preacher’s Bench.” She always spoke about getting one and when I saw this one, I knew she would love it and she did. She told me she cried when she opened it and then showed to everyone around where she lived. The Highpoint Furniture Company shipped it for me for free. It was a really nice piece.

As a kid, I didn't have a whole lot of choice in re where I lived, but I did actually love the snow as a kid - it was fun to play in - until I got a driver's license and began to drive in it. Then it became a major pain. We have relatively little snow here in Southwest Washington - some years none at all.
 
I grew up in the suburbs also and like the pace of life and the people here. Also it's visually beautiful where I live so I would hate to ever leave that. Virginia was beautiful when I lived there in the sixties but the culture shock was hard for someone from the north but it was one of the prettiest places I've ever seen.
 
Childhood in the Oakland hills. Other than a five year stint in the Navy, a few years in Berkeley and San Francisco, across the bay from San Francisco in Marin County. Southern Marin is the best. Where I am located, zero crime, great climate, and a relaxing wooded environment.
 
As can be seen from my avatar info, I live in the lovely county of Hertfordshire UK. Although it's certainly a top place to hang your hat...compared to my cottage in Devon, it takes second place!
Now I have travelled far and wide, I have lost count of where I've been, and spent time in many wonderful places, some of unbelievable beauty, but, it's Devon I love!
