I was lucky enough to be able to drive 50 miles and be in the total black out zone a few years ago. It was beautiful and mystical. Certainly not something that can be adequately captured on film. The next one that will happen here in the U.S. will be over upstate New York. As I remember, it will pass directly over Buffalo.

There were a lot of people in this area who thought that seeing a partial ellipse would be enough and that is pure nonsense. I would drive 150 miles to see another full ellipse.

I agree, huge difference. Really no comparison.

I'd drive farther than that, thinking about it for the next ones. Annular October 14, 2023 will be within 200 miles. But the big one, the total eclipse April 8, 2024 a few hundred more.

I was lucky to be in the totality area for the one a few years ago. I was floating on my back in the middle of a warm lake gazing up through soggy cardboard solar glasses.

It was eerie. Everything was quiet and colorless.
