Split em up.
A couple lives in a way too big house since their kids have left. There are not enough small houses for elderly anymore, so they split them up.

This is my (and a lot of other people's) situation but my husband absolutely refuses to move. I've known of several other elderly couples who are in the same situation and with one exception, it's been the husband refusing to move. The wives appeal of "Don't you want to move closer to our children and grandchildren?" doesn't even work.

The people in the examples from youtube just gave half their house to their kid to help em. We have no smaller houses they can buy or rent anymore or it is possible to rent, but insane expensive compared to what they pay for their house. With a kid it's okay to share a house, but someone you don't know? Share a kitchen as if you're students? Still 200.000 people don't mind splitting up their house. They now want to change the rules. It's forbidden now to rent a room to someone, even if you bought it, because renters are too protected. They want to change that.
