was this America ?... we in the Uk didn't have hotdogs in the 30's ...I do know however that meatless meatloaf was definitely a thing , as was baked apples

You can make cakes without dairy or eggs. Pancakes also. The cake recipes often come up as "depression cake."

Grandma made baked apples & I loved those growing up. It always seemed like she was able to make something out of nothing & it always tasted good. You learned how to make do with what you had in bad times.
