Our back yard is kind of wild.

And my workbench. I've been looking at water from the bird bath.

Nothing wrong with it being wild in places. When we first moved to this house, the garden was waist high with weeds. The previous owner used to graze sheep on it to keep the grass short.
We have an interesting difference in terms. In the UK a yard is generally a hard / paved area. A garden is a cultivated area - grass / flowers / vegetables etc., and a lawn is a prepared grass area, usually for sport or recreation. More often, we just refer to the front or back garden.

Here's a close up view of the flies. I've never seen the colorful one before. Can a fly be pretty?

The colorful one is a hoverfly. Its wasplike disguise is there to confuse predators.

Hoverfly larva go to town on aphids so they are beneficial in your garden.
