Some NYC stores using dogs to deter shoplifters

I wouldn't go into a store that was guarded by a dog. I wouldn't mind going back to the old way that was mentioned: going to a counter and telling them what you want. We're used to self-serve stores, but it isn't the only way to do things.

It’s a pain to shop in stores that have stuff locked up because there’s not enough employees to help customers. I would rather shop online. If I go to a store it’s because I want to see the product before I buy it. I love dogs so don’t care if stores use them.

That's not a bad idea. Of course they could just be held up at the counter but that is the way shopping used to be. I remember reading once about the first grocery store where people picked their own items vs. being served by someone behind the counter.

I adhere to the following philosophy:
CVS Sucks.
I was at a CVS store in Fla last November and bought some items. While the young lady was scanning my items I noticed her hand-held scanner gun dropped below the counter briefly a couple of times. Thought; that's weird! I started for the door and was checking my receipt because I thought what I was charged was higher than I expected. Sure enough, she had scanned in some sort of child's doll! The product name was printed right there on my receipt. She must have had in under the counter on a shelf and scanned it in while processing my items.
I immediately went back and of course, the cashier girl was long gone. Asked to see the manager. Told him my story and showed him my receipt & bag of stuff. He credited me for the doll and from the look on his face and the way he rolled his eyes, seemed to me he knew exactly who the cashier was. I'm betting she was gone that day but holly cow! When the store employees are doing the stealing from their customers ... that's a complete 180 on the shoplifter thing.
