Some of our rescues that have now crossed the rainbow bridge

We don't have as far to go, as we've already been
A bittersweet memory hit me tonight.

Elliot was a peekapoo who was rescued from a kill shelter in Tampa. He was riddled with fleas, ticks ,heartworms, and when he was picked up he was living on bugs and whatever else he could find to eat. He was a happy healty boy, who favorite past-time is kissing his brother toby!

Butters was a pug/shih tzu who was left inside a rental house locked in a room and left for days until he was found by a cleanup man and brought to a kill shelter in Arkansas. He suffered from seizures and had to be on daily meds, but other than his meds he was happy ,healthy, always smiling and loves his chewies, and his baby sister pattycake.

Toby Tyler was a shih tzu. He had such a beautiful pure heart inside and out. He was left tied to a porch when people moved from a house trailer. Hungry, matted ,and smelling of poop, he too was taken to a kill shelter and I had to drive 90 miles one way right away that night to save him. He has been a happy, love giving angel ever since!

TOTO was a malti-poo who was given up to us as him young mom could not keep him, he is a precious little boy who has never given us a bit of
trouble, he sleeps touching me every night.

Sandy was a Maltese. While at petsmart for a grooming, they allowed him to escape out the door and into traffic.

Noopdoggy was my neefer's 12th birthday present, and then became my lil man for about 17 yrs! ( he was the runt, and no one wanted him)

Heidi was a senior poodle, we don't know her age, she is totally blind (pure white eyes) and was dumped in a ditch during tropical storm Debby.
Saw her at the shelter where adoption was not likely. She is now a happy girl with little spurts of puppy showing thru. she had mastered the house, doggy door, and took care of herself, she was very precious and deserved to live her senior life in bliss.

Meishka was a Pomeranian, rescued from a puppy mill where she was to make babies. Was dominated by large dogs and then was hit by a truck and left to heal on her own for 5 months before we took her away and had her operated on. she had a broken pelvis, spine and a broken tail that was just being dragged around. she has now learned to be a kid, and play, and that not all dogs dominate her and take her food, and water. She has the sweetest personality,i don't think she could growl even if prodded. Died in my wife's arms.

Katie was a pure poodle and Noopdoggy's sister. Spinal injury with broken back.

Judy aka JuJuBe was a Pekingese. Rescued from an Amish puppy mill. Had never been out of a cage and was scared to walk more than 2 feet. Cancer got her.

My Pattycake.
She was a pure poodle almost 3 yrs old. She's spoiled and beautiful and was definately the spark in our family. She loved all the furrkids and kisses and cuddles and shares everything with all of them. Really loved to jump into the pool after her favorite green toy. Poisened by licking a frog

Great thread! I have had 9 dogs pass through my life in 19 years. We flew across the country to rescue Josie who was a deaf puppy mill breeder. It took years to socialize her. We had her 11 years and she was very spoiled and demanding later in life. Rescue dogs are forever grateful.

we're the same , so many rescues, so many deaths.. when I say we.. I mean we as an extended family.. and some pooches were so close to death it was astounding how they survived under our care, and went on to be happy friendly dogs...

You're a good man .. a kind man.. and the heartbreak is something we have to bear when we lose them and never gets easier..

In the last few years we've lost a Terrier mix Pablo...tiny stood only 6 inches high had been seriously abused...

A Cane Corso ... serious mental problems after being abused, .. died after 6 years... brain cancer

Scruffydoodle.. not a rescue.. A big brown loving Labradoodle... 12 weeks old when my daughter got him..lived until 13 and died in my daughters' arms after suffering several seizures..

Minkie.. the most loving Staffordshire Bull terrier ever... thought she was human, loved people... died from a stroke after suffering from serious Arthritis, altho' never in pain

Rodders.. a rescue at 7 months , starved, beaten abandoned in the road riddled with the Pavo virus.. nursed back to health and grew big and strong... aggressive towards bigger dogs so had to be kept seperate from those.. but one day he managed to get to the Doberman who was a very calm and laid back dog.... and in that attack caused my DD to fall 30 feet over a cliff edge as he pulled her over.. severing her fingers in his determination to get to the Doberman, and causing the Dobie such severe injuries we though he might have to be put down, but he survived after careful and determined nursing.. ... sadly , very very sadly, there was nothing for it, Rodders had to be PTS... he couldn't be allowed to be near other dogs.. heartbreaking but the problem is when you rescue you really don't know what damage the neglect has caused in the Brain... !...
