Some old b/w films from the USA

As I was browsing and responding to different threads and topics my mind was drawn to two classic usa films with great actors some dead perhaps now - the films were in b/w I believe and probably depicted in New York perhaps. First was Barefoot in the Park - Robert Redford and Jane Fonda and in b/w - a time we have almost forgotten

and the other was Love Story with Ryan O'Neil and Ali McGraw - God that one brought lumps in the throat and not a dry eye in the house? also probably in b/w and I understand that Ryan had died somewhat recently but they had remained firm friends all the time and did a final item of stage acting just before his death. Brought a tear to my eyes and the exclamation " oh no - but why?"

Friends and co-workers would always explain, " If it's not in Black and White, FLF probably hasn't seen it!".
I'll watch a movie in Color, but some of best movies ever made used B&W as a visual effect, long after the color process was available.
IMHO

I agree with you. B&W adds a mysterious and atmospheric quality that color films can't.
