Some old fashioned methods of housework can be the best

I think it extremely unlikely that an iron would use as much electricity as a tumble dryer.

I do have a dishwasher and I hand wash some things, like saucepans and bigger containers.

I have a tumble dryer but use it extremely rarely, maybe a couple of time a year. If it needs replacing, I won't replace it.

I like line drying - no issues with insects or bird poop and most things don't need ironing. I certainly don't iron sheets or pillow cases, nor most clothes.
And rain is fine - if it rains and clothes get wet they just stay out there another day until they dry.

I do have an airfryer which I use regularly and a microwave which I use regularly.
Also a toaster, kettle, rice cooker, crockpot.

I think every person's preferences will vary - use the appliances that suit you and don't buy the ones that don't.

I like Alton Brown (Food Network) philosophy on kitchen gadgets: If they don't do multiple jobs, don't keep them. I went through my kitchen & found a bunch of things I didn't use or need. Amazing what space I found.
Alton is very wise and interesting to listen to. I‘m trying to clear out my drawers too.

I dont quite agree with that - my kettle only does one job, boils water. But I use it several times per day so I will keep it.

I think a better plan might be - if you don't use it regularly, don't keep it.

He meant the small gadgets that take up space & not items like a kettle. I use my kettle not only for hot drinks, but when I need to add more hot water to my canning kettle & to soften the rubber on my canning lids. I've also used it for when I needed to soak a barn bucket outside to clean it.

I miss the dishwasher. It stopped working in this apartment and I'm not asking for a replacement. I'd only run it every 5-7 days. I haven't used my dryer since probably March. I hang laundry outside or inside. I do have trouble with yellowjackets, so hanging inside when really hot.

I'm also only using the stovetop for oatmeal. Everything else is in the microwave. I don't want the heat. Hope it gets cold enough to use the oven.

I have an iron because I sew.
