Some people just look mean?

I was at Galleria Shopping centre enjoying a meal yesterday after work.

12 meters away from me is a guy who simply looks like he wants to punch anyone that dares look at him. Deep, sunken eyes, shaved head, White Singlet, Muscles bulging, permanent scowl on his dial.
I done my best not to lock eyes with him. :(

The other day when we were out walking at the track, there was a mean looking man and his pit bull. I said hi and his face lit up. The dog, not so much. Glad it was on a leash.

Looks can be deceiving. This is a good example @Jules. As you age you develop expression lines. Lines between the brows can often give people a mean scowling “look”, but it's not their personality.

It doesn't bother me to take a chance on saying, “Hi” to someone who looks less than approachable. You never know, that small act could brighten their day. :)

I have a feeling I often fall into the “always look angry” category b/c I’m in my own head so much and I just am a serious person. I don’t mean to be (angry)

On the other hand, I’ve heard it said of Robert De Niro that he looks “like someone who’s about to shoot you in the knee caps”

I hope I’m not *that* grumpy looking!

I don't know but if someone gives you a bad feeling, pay attention to it.

I'm nothing to look at and I've been treated like an idiot too much in my life, so I try not to judge people. But if someone gives me that bad feeling, I'll pay attention to it.

Yesterday I was walking back to my car after being downtown and here comes a guy pushing a piled up shopping cart mumbling loudly to himself. I headed to my car fast. I have encountered homeless on my work property feeding the ferals and so far no issues with them. I am cautious however and speak to them respectfully. I've so far received the same in return.

Kind of you. Perhaps because of how he looks, people ignore him.

We have the fake lakes in my area with walking trails. I can tell you the snootiest are mainly the youngish women in their athletic clothes (because you can't just walk in pants/shorts and t-shirt from the thrift store like I do) usually in pairs or more. They act like it's a chore to say hello back. The older people are usually much more friendly and I've seen a very elderly man with his dog who is friendly.
