Somebody removed the plastic bag I put on my roadside mailbox

Because of the snow and freezing rain lately, I put a plastic bag over the mailbox and secured it with clothespins because of a concern the lid might freeze shut. Before the mail is delivered (which usually occurs around 11:30am), I go out and pull it away from the lid, then after the mail is delivered, pull it back over to cover it. However, this morning I noticed it was gone and I didn't see it anywhere like if it has just come loose. I just wonder why someone would remove it.
 

Good thing AI is in control. It can be hard to reason with AI. There are times when human judgment is very important.
 

All the mailboxes at the neihborhood close to mine were sitting on a couple Sawhorses out by the State Highway.
City didn't plow or salted the streets. Everyone walks to their mail box sitting on a 2"x12" x16'...

Snowplow knocked off the City Building mailbox on the same highway. I suppose that was a Federal Offense too.

Keep your leaf fire starter / lil butane torch handy to warm up the front of the lid to thaw the ice out of it. Wear gloves to combat burns.

If you can't get it open for a day or two, you don't read bad news / bills. Lol Your mail will stay at the post office, get a box there to check too!
 
It may well be, but the local postmaster said almost the same thing when I moved. At my old house, I did have a PO box and he said if there's an outside mailbox at my new house, I had to relinquish the one at the PO and turn in any keys in my possession.
 
Had a good friend who kept his cookies in his mailbox so he would not be overcome by temptation. He had an ongoing argument with the postmaster about the legality of that. His logic was that if the postal department wanted to regulate the use then they could supply the box. At the time of his death he was still winning…
 
Did you know that according to the state of California, a dwelling can be considered legally "uninhabitable" under the "implied warranty of habitability" standards if there is no lock on your mailbox? I had fun with the PHA in Eureka over that. I didn't actually care since all I ever get is junk mail. But I rubbed it in their face and made them buy me a new lockable mailbox. :)
 
Someone may have thought that a wrapped mailbox had something in it worth taking.

Or they wanted clothes pegs.
