Last Presidential election I filled out my paper ballot and there was a machine that was supposed to take my ballot and tell me if my vote has been accepted and counted.
There was a prominent arrow to supposedly show where to put my ballot, but was placed on the metal behind the opening where it looked like a ballot might go. The arrow was pointing toward the back of the machine which to me looked like the actual slot must be above and behind the other opening.
I kept trying to slide the ballot back there and nothing happened. What was the other slot for? Maybe to shred unacceptable ballots who knows. So I kept trying to slide my ballot into a non-existent slot.
Finally, I became disgusted and put it in the front slot. The machine told me my vote was accepted and counted.

Who puts an arrow pointing at the back of the machine above and behind a slot? Why have an arrow at all?
