Son in-law run down by hit and run driver

Good news that Shawn is home. I think we all recover quicker in our own home environment. You must all still be so shocked. It will take time but, you will all get through it together. x

We had a family get-together last weekend, Shawn is still recovering from his injuries, but is mobile with the help of a cane. He is himself mentally, when we're talking it's hard for me to get a word in edgewise.
The hit n run driver is still in jail, he trial is coming up soon.
DW's grandkids are growing up way too fast, they have chickens. One chicken named Betty is suspected of being a rooster, so we might have to find her/him a home if she/he starts crowing and their neighbors complain.

So glad to read that he is on the mend Nathan. I hope that driver gets the book thrown at him.

My wife had a pet chicken named Chirper that was served for dinner one night to her horror. Her Italian father who raised much of their food the way his family had probably wanted to harden her off to the necessities of life. Still she was just a toddler.

So glad Shawn is on the mend!

Tuesday morning our SIL Shawn was just leaving for work, around 4:15AM. A car came roaring up the street fast, street racers are a problem there. Shawn waved his arms at the guy to slow down. The car went up the road a bit, then turned around. The driver aimed the car at Shawn, flashing the headlights and honking the horn, Shawn was knocked to the ground, and the driver sped off. My step-daughter Sara(Shawns wife) heard the commotion and came out to discover him laying there, she called 911. Shawn was taken to the trauma center at Loma Linda University, which has the best trauma care in the region.

Needless to say, Sara was beside herself, and stayed at the hospital around the clock. Shawn's son and daughter came, only close relatives and Sara were allowed to see him. There were numerous CT scans taken, monitoring the injury to Shawn's head. He had a brain bleed initially, which subsequent scans showed as having stopped. The neurosurgeon said both of the frontal lobes had bruising. My heart sank, having googled every bit of information that was relayed, there was a lot of room for bad news. However, Thursday Sara said she felt optimistic from the latest report from the neurosurgeon, and later in the day they released Shawn to go home.

Shawn has a fractured elbow, and road rash on the left side. He doesn't remember the incident, doesn't remember being in the hospital. But he does recognize and knows who people are. Time and healing...

Earlier today

Sara told us that the Sheriff's Dept. arrested a suspect, he is charged with penal-code/664-187, attempted murder. I believe it was a Ring camera that caught a glimpse of the car and driver. Turns out- the suspect is a 60 yr. old newspaper delivery guy.

I see a long road ahead, I hope Shawn can recover fully and be himself 100%, he loves life and doing what he does.
It is a miracle he survived. I'm so glad they have a suspect and it can be verified with camera evidence.

I have read that large doses of B vitamins can help with brain healing. Here's one article on how they are beneficial to the depressed, which is a brain illness: B Vitamins Play Important Roles in Mental Health Care

If you search on Google Scholar, their website devoted to research papers, you can find papers published about the aid B vitamins and others can play in helping brains heal. Just search for "benefits of vitamins after TBI" and terms like that.

Also, I had a concussion once in about 2015. Had it verified a the hospital with a CT scan. Was told that REST, sleep, NO STRESS are vital to healing the brain. The doctor said when people rush back into their old routines too fast, they start to experience symptoms again (headaches, dizziness, fatigue, confusion, etc.) and it takes them longer to heal because the poor brain needs rest!

So please tell this young man who probably wants to go back to work in week that he must take all the time off he needs to let his brain heal.

He should also not be watching anything upsetting on TV, no blood & guts videos games or movies, and, surprisingly, he cannot listen to loud or complex music. Music makes both sides of the brain work hard, which is why it's so great for kids to learn a musical instrument (helps them be smarter), but the brain should not be working hard in recovery. Vitamins can cause stomach upset in many people, so get him the chewable ones.
