I was only singing that song to myself the other day and remembered, we sisters used to sing it as children to entertain the family. When it came to the line, "Sometimes I had a great notion to jump in the river and drown" I used to sing "I had a great motion
and jumped in the river and drowned", everybody would laugh and ask me to sing it again and it brought more laughter. I
didn't see the funny side and refused to sing it again. I do know now what they were laughing at.
