I was at Starbucks today and as usual I was listening to my favorite local sports talk show through my earbuds. However, this song came on Starbucks Radio and for whatever reason this song hit me like a ton of bricks. I have heard it countless times in my life but this morning I paused the sports talk radio show, took off my earbuds and let this song take over me. I'm still not sure why but I felt like I was listening to it for the first time . And yes, I do like the James Taylor version too but there is a vulnerability in Carole King's voice that just sounds so honest and raw.

Loved many a Carole King's songs back in the day.

This soulful song tugs at my heart for two reasons. I can feel the pain of the poor guy who's girl has done him wrong and why he needs to leave her. But also, on Eons, the first social networking site I joined about 16 years ago, I connected and was in groups with with a woman who was married to one of the members of this group. Her husband was murdered and they never found his killer. She posted about him often and never gave up hope that they'd find the killer.
