Found this interesting. In Nov 2005, National Geographic published a story about the successful germination of 2000 yr old seeds. They are of an extinct Judean date palm. They named the plant Methuselah. (Male) when the female plants are mature they hope use Methuselah's pollen to fertilize them in attempt to produce the ancient fruit. Methuselah now stands ten feet at ten years old!

In 2012, scientists in Moscow were able to revive 32,000 yr old seeds found below the permafrost These were of a flowering plant still in existence today. How amazing is that! They used carbon-dating to verify.

There are groups that are involved in the creation of a seed bank, freezing seeds and storing them in a vault in a mountain in Norway. This is being done in case of either a natural or a man-made disaster.

I like the idea of seed banks Carla, invaluable if there is a natural or man-made disaster....hopefully not GMO seeds though. :p
