Speculation a college football team scored in final seconds to cover gambling spread

Speculation on wether Penn State's touchdown in the final seconds of game that was already decided with s 2 touch down 16 point lead over West Virginia was for the gamblers since the spread was 20.5 points. That touchdown gave them a 23 point win.

Back in my youth, I was someone who bet a lot on sporting events.
How to read a 'spread' and the over/unders could drive you crazy.

As for this particular game, I have the feeling that Penn State is looking
forward to making the playoffs and the margin of victory can play into it.

Also hard to tell a team to 'take a knee' in that postion on the field.
These are young kids (adults) and hard to tell them not to score.

Just my take on it.

One reason the issue came up is that an assistant coach was the Penn St quarterback in the 1990s, who was an alleged/ 'known' gambler and basically did the same thing. Score/throw touch down pass late.

Unfortunately, covering the spread is part of the ranking systems used by people doing the rankings... which extends into the BCS ranking.

In this case #7 Penn State is attempting to improve its rank for bowl season.
