Spellcheck doesn't correct any more??????????

Got a #%@@^&%$# update, so, of course, something doesn't work anymore.
My spellcheck does not correct my misspellings. If I type "ckickens", the box says "no suggestions." I'm dyslexic, so I've never typed the same word twice-I need my spellcheck. Everything seems good in "Settings".
Any ideas?

welcome to my world, spellcheck on here hasn't worked for me for months as most people can tell by my many errors... it's not that I can't spell but I type very fast with long nails, and so endless errors as I hit the wrong keys , but no spell check to let me know...

If I forget the spelling of a word I'll just change the sentence structure or use a similar word. I just forget about spell check.

Is this typing in a texting app, or an MS word document, or in a web browser text editor, like the one here for posting?

Check if there’s an outdated dictionary, go to Microsoft Store, search for “English proofing tools,” and reinstall.

You most likely need to turn on Ai. Copilot?
Quillbot's spell checker download !
Check the options at the top ↑

I would rather type a wrong spelling than
have what I just said words completely
changed and not realize it until after I sent it.
I shut that off on my Apple Phone too.

Notice it may show pre-typed stuff ahead of what you type for some things.

I use Microsoft Outlook for email, and they changed the way their spell check works. Such as pain in the rear.

The main problem I have, like HollyDolly, is that I type quickly, and I somehow transpose words a lot. For example, I mean to type "is" and it comes out as "if". Maddening, but it's all me. :D

As long as such spell and grammar checking software doesn't actually insert suggestions it may display for a user to actually use, such is useful. However, I've noticed a tendency, especially in Foxfire, to occasionally add terms I never selected that sends me to webpages never intended. Worse on smartphones where the search field/url space is limited and more difficult to backtrack from.

I always advise computer users to have a text only application like Notepad open in a small window on their laptop/desktop screens for copying into after selections for all manner of uses including removing formatting. Enhanced such programs now also usually have spell checking mode options. I have a compulsive behavior ingrained from the earliest web era of spell and grammar checking even though I realize it isn't important. Over time, due to repetition, will improve one's inputs.

I feel for you Fuzzybuddy. My husband was dyslexic, so I know how some things the rest of us take for granted can be really frustrating. If you have a Gmail account and type something in Google documents, it will correct your spelling and your grammar too. Sometimes it "corrects" something I don't want corrected. If I'm writing a long post for the forum, I'll type it in Google Docs first.

Open Edge, clidk the 3 dots top right. Select Settings, select languages, Select English, follow completely thru the Language, 3 will open on the last select English spell & Grammer check. At, near the bottom of the first page locate Writing assistant languages, You need to open 3 windows and basically select everything you need. Restart.

Things should change, as you type you will see a rectangular box above right with correct spellings. It's sort of a glance at it a lot thing. You should now have spell fix, restart and see if it is helping.

Thank you, but I think I can muddle through for now.
