Sportsmanship is more important than sport.

Give the boy in yellow a gold ribbon.

Sport should be consigned to the weekends as a pleasure activity, NOT a career!
I can't agree with that at all. It's just that as really ridiculous amounts of money have become involved over the years, the greed that goes hand in hand with that, has taken over. There are still instances of sportsmanship to be found, but not as much as there once was.A lot of our footballers [here] have become like spoilt children. As most of our teams are foreign anyway and the players struggle with speaking English, the team becomes less cohesive.

The U.S. is so obsessed with sports and starting at such young ages that doctors and psychologists have warned about the harm that can be done by early competition. Needless to say, nobody has paid much attention...

Sport is more like a religion here in the UK, it is crazy. My grandson (11) is a very talented soccer player and has been scouted by some of our premier league teams. However, as the boy is very intelligent I hope to goodness he will choose a proper career when older. Kicking a ball around a pitch is NOT something he should be wasting his time on apart from as a hobby, imo.

Let's not call it sport. For children I prefer to call it games.
Games are for fun and you can play them with very little equipment.
We played in the street with a tennis ball and a cut down broomstick.

I was going to start out by saying "every kid", but that is arugumentative, so I will say, "most kids" that participate in sports have a dream of making it to the NFL, NBA, MLB or other professional level of their chosen sport. A lot of kids even imitate their sport's hero, whether it be Tom Brady, LeBron James, Derek Jeter or whoever. Probably the violence factor puts a bigger black eye on professional sports than money, although violence and money pretty much are tied together as to why people love to watch sports, but have very little respect for the people themselves. Most people will respect their abilities, but their attitudes are what puts them in a bad place among the fans. But, there are those that do enjoy the violence. Like a late hit in football or a high sticking in hockey and the the fight that follows or a pitcher that will intentionally hit the batter. Most sports heroes should not be role models for our kids, but sadly they are. I would be amiss to say that they are some, a few, but some sports stars that are genuine in their nature.
