Spring is Here & Easter is Coming!

The first day of spring varies ... it's March 1st according to the meteorological calendar & March 20th astronomically.

I've seen the signs in the past few weeks. Right at the tail end of the very cold temps, the robins showed up in the back yard followed by the chipmunks & squirrels. The other day my crocus bulbs sprouted up & today they bloomed. The fluffy snow from overnight was gone by mid-morning. I know we'll have some more cold days, but the better temperatures are coming. So is Easter!

The daffodils in the cow pasture across the road are in bloom

The same cow pasture ^^^ was getting bushogged with a brand new bushog and a fairly new JD.. he either ran out of fuel or broke something because it is sitting near the road, far far away from its barn

The little purple ground cover flowers are in bloom. That always indicates lawn mowing is on the horizon

I m pretty sure I have see three pair of Purple Martins flying around their apartment buildings.

@Lilac, like you, I know there’s more cold weather somewhere down the road. March has come in like a lamb in my area so that means the odds are good it will go out like a lion.

Def spring time around here. Those little purple flowers on the lawn got mowed this wknd. Thinking about heading to Home Depot for a couple of bags of potting soil and some flowers to plant. I think we turn our clocks ahead on March 8th.

Me too, but I’ve given up hope.

The good thing about being retired and still having horses, is they have a great internal clock for feeding time. I pay attention to when they come up to the barn, regardless of what the clock says

Keeping appointments in town is another matter

@dobielvr you mowed already?! Ugh. Do you water your lawn, or do you live where you get a lot of rain?

It messes with my internal clock to bad. The fall is okay, but the spring changes I've haven't ever gotten used to ... even after retiring when it shouldn't matter.

This was the first time I've mowed it all winter, and it was like a jungle in my byard. And, those purple flowers were alive and well! Yes, we've had plenty of rain this season. Not tons, but enough for me lol.

Aren‘t they something

The Arabian, who is on loan as a companion, watches the house in the morning. He is a talker. The Dutch Warmblood was gifted to me as a companion to my 31 yr old TWH that passed 15 months ago. He is so sweet, but a walk silent carry a big stick fella. It is comic to watch his 17H self back toward the 14.3H Arab and make him move

They are funny. When it's warm I'll put the stall guards up & the mare will lean over & look out the aisle door towards the house. I know she sees us through the window & stares at us in the morning. She wants fed before we get our coffee.

I don't ride any more because of my back can't take the bouncing, but I can do everything else with them. I was on the bobcat steer/skid loader the other day when it was warm & scraped down the center of the drive & used the gravel to fill in the pot holes which is my spring ritual. The day after my back was stogged up & it was a bear to move.

My back issues are why I started riding Tennessee Walkers in 1990; even though the doctors told me to stop riding.

I finally was forced to take my last ride around 2012. Like you, I can still run the equipment. I see the chiropractor weekly and get spinal decompression when I can afford it. The DRX machine makes a huge difference.

I had bought this for the horses years ago. I always try topicals on myself first. This cooling gel never made it to the barn. It is amazing at decreasing pain & inflammation. It does have an odor to it, not obnoxious it strong enough people might look at you funny at the grocery store.
