Statement re: Joys of Retirement...

I'm not sure I'll ever be fully retired but I did stop punching the time clock twenty years ago. I started and ran a dogsled tour business for 16 years and just closed this year. I worked a lot in the winter but basically had summers off. Now I'm running a stained glass business which I plan on doing for as long as physically possible. I set my own hours and get out to cross-country ski, bike, or row, pretty much whenever I want. I'm still caring for 13 retired Siberian Huskies so that keeps me tied down a certain amount. I've been jokingly saying I'm "semi-retired" for 20 years now.

Ken, huskies are great dogs. I was lucky enough to be owned by Noki and he was a shepherd/husky mix. He was smart, protective and very loving. Sadly I can only have a dog with hair because of my severe allergies and asthma.

Back on topic consulting 5-10 hours a week is perfect for me and I am really enjoying it. I have worked part time 8 of the 11 years that I have been retired.

I have to exercise so I won't be crippled. I have to wash dishes and do other housework. Various scheduled activities stave off the loneliness. So I feel that my days are full of obligations.

If I had a companion, and/or could get away with lounging around all day (preferably outdoors), then I'd enjoy my "freedom."
