Staycation favorites anyone has taken?

I consider a staycation anything I can get to within a couple hours. For instance…we recently booked a hotel and walked to a concert in downtown Phoenix. It was wonderful to see the little eateries and shops that are usually missed because I have very little reason to be downtown. Where do you go?

I'm in central Texas, so there are several locations in any direction from me. Fredericksburg is only 200 miles away, and much to see in historic downtown, which is a favorite place of tourists at Christmas, and it's not far from the LBJ (Lyndon Johnson) Ranch, open to the public. I'm about 200 miles (= or -) from San Antonio, home of the Alamo, and that city has many other tourist attractions. Austin, our State Capitol, is even closer to me.

It's been years since I've been to those places; would like to do it again - and I agree, places closer to home are better (for me anyway) than going off long distances. I've done both, and always feel a bit insecure for some reason when traveling several states away from where I live.

Life in Sun Valley, Idaho is a staycation. I guess not leaving the house would be my staycation.

In my former life a salesman I worked with was a good man, but difficult to deal with. He made life unpleasant even for his own co-workers. When the difficult salesman would go on vacation I joked constantly about how we were all on a staycation w the person filling in. He had to stifle his laughing so his office mates didn't get too curious about the cause of the laughter and spoil the fun, Things got done just the same w/out him but the mood of all concerned was much better.

I love doing short staycations as I'm only a 15 minute drive from Niagara Falls. There's so many neat things to do there aside from just seeing the falls which I've seen many, many times.
Some of the things I've enjoyed most are; ride the Hornblower, which is the boat that goes right up close to the horseshoe falls. Everyone gets soaked on that one!:

Zipline close to the falls is another thrilling experience:

The heart-stopper of them all is the Jetboat Ride up the Niagara River river rapids. Talk about getting absolutely soaked lol:

There's also a lot of non-adrenalin inducing things to do near the falls. Niagara Parks keeps the grounds around the Falls in imaculate condition with lots of flower gardens & mature trees. A popular picnic spot for families. Of course there's also Clifton Hill, a place near the falls with lots of touristy stuff for families to do and resturants to eat in.

A short way from the falls is the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory. It's a sort of botanical gardens that houses thousands of bifferent spiecies of butterflys. A most unusual yet beautify place to just wander around whatching them at close range. They'll even land on you if you stay still long enough!

Then up the road away is the quaint little town of Niagara On The Lake. A lovely spot for wandering the shops and coffee/tea houses and a place that showcases the annual Shaw Festival. A series of live plays that runs each summer for a period of time.

The best part for me is I can go home each night and sleep in my own bed. Accomodation anywhere near Niagara Falls is pretty pricey, to say the least
