Still haven't received my IRS Refund

This year was the first year in ages that I've been entitled to a refund. I submitted my tax return on April 15, and my accountant said "3 weeks but they usually come sooner". It is now almost 4 weeks and I still haven't received it. I've been to the IRS site and it has shown "received" status for weeks. "Approved" comes next. Has anyone else experienced a delay? The IRS seems to process the money quickly when I'm paying it, but not when they owe me. :(

Sorry you’re left waiting for your refund seadoug. I wish I had something helpful to offer you but unfortunately I don’t. We always get our refund back fairly quickly.

Doug, this was the first time in decades that I was due a refund too. I was surprised at how quickly mine was deposited, which was within a week. That being said, I'm also surprised you haven't received yours after 4 weeks! I hope you get it soon. It will be via direct deposit, right?

I think it has more to do with when you file. Those of us who file early get our refunds fairly quickly. I filed in February and had mine back in like a week. But I think there are a lot of people who wait til the very last minute to file and then the IRS gets backed up by the flood of folks who newly filed.

I'm sure you're right. I submitted my tax return before I left on vacation in late March, so I couldn't sign it until April 14. I'll just wait patiently!

This is something I found in AI:
System Overloads and Staffing Consolidations
High filing volumes right at the deadline saturate the processing queues. Additionally, programmatic software updates to align with late-breaking tax law adjustments and overall agency budget cuts restrict the volume of returns the IRS can move through the pipeline daily.

Also says to check your IRS Where's My Refund tool. They also said 6 wks.
