Stock Markets Drops Over 800 Points In 2 Days

Are the SS funds managed by hedge fund and pension fund managers? Because if so, wouldn't those funds be intricately tied to and affected by the stock market dropping?

I know that our CPP (Canada Pension Plan) is invested in an assortment of 3000 global companies as well as fixed income investments. So a dramatic drop in the stock market has a direct affect on the overall fund itself. And while our monthly checks may not change, the longevity of the plan itself could be altered. So far, at the current rate of expenditure and input, our CPP is safe for the next 75 years.

Could you explain your comment QS because I think I'm missing something here?

No... Our SS is NOT tied to hedge funds or wall street.. They are funded by the FICA tax that everyone pays through payroll deductions.. What Republicans have always wanted to do is to tie them to the market.. My remark was sarcasm.... showing what a horrible idea that is..

Distorted remark above. The Republicans did not want to tie our SS to funds at all. It was a discussion about allowing some to do so if they chose to do so. Not a mandatory change at all. And that idea ended in the discussion period and never got proposed or voted on.

Stock Market

It usually is the rule that the time to buy is after a big drop in the market. Now is the time to be careful about going along with that idea.

If I could have put my money from ss into Apple and/or Netflix -- not even going to finish. Most ss investors/contributors don't want to bothered with managing their own. A few of us made enough off of short selling this last week to make up for any losses in extreme market downturns. God what a great country.,

Did you short some stocks this week?

Yes, large volumes of two in particular. I always end the day in a cash position. Some of the folks here who like to blame the rich for everything may feel better to know that the billionaires lost over 200 billion in equity capitalization in pacific rim holdings.

Well looks like the rally held... Wouldn't you have been smart to have bought a few days ago? Like I advised?
