Strange place names

What's strange about Llanfair P.G., which is the normal usage?

"The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio’s of the red cave,” is just an ordinary village name.

And I don't need any pronunciation lessons thank you very much.
Good for you!

There's a Shitterton in Dorset too.

You see the name: North Piddle, it gets it's name from the River Piddle. Back in the 19th century when the railways were expanding at a pace, they reached the town of Weymouth. Prince Albert loved Weymouth and he took his family there. To spare royal blushes as the train crossed the River Piddle, the railway company covered the river Piddle sign so that it read: River Trent.

For those unfamiliar with Brit slang, piddle is a slang term for urinate. It's not a profanity, it's more on a par with the word fart.
Oops I got the county wrong 🤪

Sewer Peak

Yep, it's a great wave breaking over solid rock reef. In fact, one of my favorites.

Long ago the sewer line that extended across the reef (that's right let's dump everything into the ocean) eventually broke apart from the pounding waves. The saying went (sorry about this) that you could paddle out and see what you had for breakfast. Eventually, although sewage is still pumped into the sea, it was repaired.

It was beyond gross and a serious health risk. But, oh that wave!
